Anyone ever see 440 develop a patina? After a few months of use my Seratta seems to have some patina and/or staining. I haven't tried polish, but that said I've scrubbed it as hard as I can and it won't move at all. It doesn't bother me at all, and I know 440 is less stainless than a lot of other stainless steels, but since I've never seen this on a stainless knife before I thought I'd see if anyone else has experienced this.

It looks very good! I prefer your patina over most "artificial mustard patinas". Thanks for sharing!

This is my Caly Super Blue I did with a grapefruit. I'm new to the Spyderco Forum but certainly not to the Spyderco brand.
Hope you guys like it.

I also did my Manbug with a Blood Orange

Newtron - those patinas are really nice! Are those two knives "users" or collection pieces?

So did you simply stick the blade inside a grapefruit? I really like the way it came out, but it looks like you need to sharpen the edges again.

Thanks guys :)
The Caly is a collector for me. I purchased it to use and put the patina on.. now can't bring myself to mess with it. The manbug I just got the other night and I suspect my wife will be adopting that one!

I started by sticking Opinels into fruits but found there was too much fruit acid. So for the Caly I cut a grapefruit just off center, pat it dry it with paper towel and sandwich the blade between the fruit slices for 15 to 30min. And thats about it.
The manbug I did with a Blood Orange, but same procedure.

The edge is still fairly sharp. They don't take quite the same beating as a FC acid etch. I could throw them on the WE... but I'll probably just touch them up on the ceramic sticks

That picture makes it look pretty thin behind the edge. It might just be lighting because the bug is still there.

It used to be a lot thicker before I convexed it... The bug took a few shots but survived the ordeal. Here is a before pic with other M4 friends. At this point it had a 28 deg incl EP bevel, same as the Bradley but notice how much wider the bevel:

The patina seems to hide the imperfections. I think it looks pretty good.

I kind of figured that's what could have been done.

So impressed I bought a SB Manbug today so I could have a go! No oranges here so might try a lemon or mandarin, just have to inspect the "grain"
