Regrind - Manix S110V

Hey folks,

I just finished my latest regrind. S110V is quite hard to finish, however it didn't took any longer than normal to abrade the material. I used new ceramic belts (60, 80, 120) and finished with a fleece belt.

Results are ok in my opinion, could be better...




The Spyderco Logo is still left a little tiny bit.

Thickness behind the edge is ~10 thousands of an inch.

I convexed mine by hand some time ago, it was way too thick behind the edge from the factory.

I ground away the shoulder of the edge bevel, and blended the edge and primary grind freehand on a bench stone (DMT XC and C). I finished with a 30 deg micro bevel with SM diamonds. DMT's are maybe not the ideal choice, but they worked well enough. It took about 40 mins.

The cutting ability has increased dramatically. It glides through hard apples for instance with noticeably less force, where previously it would have cracked them open. I have not seen any chipping on the thinner edge. The knife gets some light EDC use at home during the evenings and over the weekends: food, packages, cardboard etc. I would not abuse it like SBaker345 did to his here: :)

The most encouraging thing about this is that anyone who can sharpen a knife can do this at home. You do not need special skills, just a coarse flat stone and some common sense. Take your time and stay away from the apex until you switch to a fine stone at the end.
