I welcome your feedback on this everyone. Cars and other road vehicles already have safety devices such as seatbelts and airbags and now even computer-driven warning systems. But how can vehicles be made even safer and what do the technology trends point to?
From your own road experiences what are some of the most dangerous or potentially dangerous incidents and how can these be averted or the risk to personal injury minimized?
One example for you: Blind spots for drivers. Is it possible to completely eliminate all blind spots for the driver of a car so that he or she can get a view of every part of the car from the inside, perhaps with cameras or something, so there is no risk of hitting someone or something outside their range of vision?

Simple, make it significantly harder to get a driver's license and make fines for driving like a jackass significantly more severe.

The only thing I see making a difference is completely removing the human element from the equation. I don't care how hard you make it to get a license, as long as humans are in control, mistakes are going to be made.

Broadly speaking, excessive speed increases the risk of an accident and the severity of damage and injury.
A 30mph speed limit for cars is therefore essential, and their prohibition from all interesting and winding roads, combined with the removal of any speed limit for motorcycles outside of urban areas.

If anything, cars should be made less safe. Sounds crazy, right? Thing is, we take these safety features for granted, and falsely imagine they will protect us. With that, people take more risks, driving faster, lacking proper following distance, not making accommodations for poor weather conditions.
If cars were a little less safe, maybe people in general would show a lot more care, and understand that they are operating dangerous machinery.

Yeah, I agree on this... as bad as human judgement and reaction times are, self-driving cars won't be universally better than a human until either roads are designed exclusively for use by self-driving vehicles, or AI gets a whole lot better than it is now.
Additionally, all the technology that keeps getting added to vehicles makes them have shorter service life, higher maintenance costs and will eventually make it so that less affluent people won't be able to afford a personal vehicle... in many cases it also lulls drivers into a false sense that the car is able to take care of critical driving decisions, so they don't pay as much attention or develop skills like backing safely, or keeping a safe following distance any more. I'm not a fan!

Make the legal age to drive 25.
