Rit dyeing

#1

Post by babtron »

Hey guys, thinking about buying a pink Squeak and Rit dyeing it with Navy Blue. I'd like a blue color, but not so sure how blue it would look. A lighter blue like the blue G-10 on the Sage 3 would be perfect.

Has anyone dyed pink FRN before? How does the color take? Does the dye ever fade? Also, would I take the knife apart and dye just the scales? Or is it okay to dump the whole knife in there? And would the warranty be voided if I dyed it?

Thanks!

I personally take mine apart when dying, because I clean off all the oil from all surfaces so it doesn't prevent the dye from reaching the FRN. As for pink, I have a feeling you'd end up with some shade of violet no matter what blue you used.

I don't think it'll end up blue either...
The discoloring from the pink will always be noticable.
Why don't you buy a slab of G10 or FRN that's already pink or white and dye them,
then put them on the Squeak.
The Squeak has real easy to make scales.
No liners, no lock, no lanyard hole, no "special" pivot.
Just a scale and 3 holes!
I finished work on my Squeak scales yesterday, easy and quik thing to make and it's allot cheaper than buying cutom pink ones.
