G10 bladed knives: Worth it or a gimmick?
Is this useless as far as cutting performance goes? I mean, there have been other fiberglass reinforced materials used for knives, such as the famous AG Russell "CIA Letter Opener" and the various knock-off variations of it. It is pretty cheap, under 5 dollars. One can look at it more like a collector's item?
I was reading an article about ceramic knives and supposedly by law, they have to have a little metal added to them, in order to make them detectable under metal detectors, for security purposes, but I don't know if that goes across the board.
If someone had this in their packed luggage on an airplane (obviously not in your carry-on stuff), would you get trouble from the TSA, or not, since it is in the packed luggage?

By the way, the maker of that G10 knife is COLT.

It's a weapon, not a tool. Probably stand up ok to stabbing, edge holding won't be much better than wood. The only reason to buy one is to be able to get past metal detectors and yes, the TSA would probably detain you as a potential terrorist if you were caught trying to smuggle one onto a plane. As for its connection to Colt, it may use their name but it's not really made, or even marketed, by them.

IMHO, I think it's a very thin line between knife and shiv.

You can have knives in your checked luggage but NOT on your carry-on luggage.jmh58 wrote:Are you not allowed to have a knife in your packed luggage?? John :)
The G-10 knives are pretty much for SD only, as Paul mentioned. I've made a few of these myself just to test, but the edges and points will virtually crumble with any type of impact with a hard surface. The TSA will most certainly question why a person is carrying such a weapon since it will get past metal detectors. Not something I'd want to risk.

Exactly. However, if they searched your check luggage for whatever reason and found one then I strongly suspect that, at the very least, you'd get added to several lists most folk would rather not be on and your chances of ever flying again without having to submit to a full body cavity might not be good. :eek:SpyderNut wrote:You can have knives in your checked luggage but NOT on your carry-on luggage.jmh58 wrote:Are you not allowed to have a knife in your packed luggage??
