Matt Farah does some great vids over at Smoking Tire on Youtube. Here is one of him driving a "home built" 400whp Fiero with an Mitsubishi Evolution engine...

Some time ago i was googling stuff about Jeep Cherokee 4.0 and the HO version, and found a site with loads of info about the old highway patrol cars, unmarked interceptors, Jeep, Ford, Chevy etc etc... some cool rides. Sadly I lost the link.

Oh nice!

Yea old cop cars are seriously cool. I remember looking at a few Fox body Mustangs that were ex-highway patrol. Ours is pretty close except for the blue and the lack of the spot light. Previous owner even did some weird mods. Bumper reinforcement and a police oil cooler? I think he might have been Mad Max. :)

SCCA Autocross is a lot of fun. You can use your daily driver.
But it's solo, not wheel to wheel. https://www.scca.com/pages/i-want-to-autocross

https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/ for a couple of grand, you can flog your beater around the track and compete wheel to wheel with other budget racers.
Here is another cheap racing series I have recently learned of, The 24 Hours of Lemons.

Buy a car for no more than $500, add safety stuff and you're racing.

Mine is a retired KY State Patrol car, one of only 10 used in 1985. I donated much of my stock interior to one of the other survivors that's getting restored back to service condition.

Anyone own a 2015+ Mustang? Any common issues?
Me and my missus have thought we might treat ourselves once we have paid off our place, which will be quite a while yet.

No but it's the first new Mustang that I've been tempted to sell my Fox for and buy. I haven't liked a new Mustang this much since the '03 Cobra and I wouldn't trade my Fox for one of those. If I won the lottery today the first car I'd buy would be the new GT350R.

Yea the new Coyote 5.0 seems very solid. The new Mustang's are staggeringly fast; probably faster than they should be for most people, lol.

The GT350R is wild. Then again, like you it would be a lotto-only type purchase. When a base GT will click off 113 in the quarter the fun/dollar ratio diminishes extremely quickly past about $30k.

I believe the 5.0 does 0-100 in just under 5 seconds which is fast enough for me

The Dodge Hellcat was my "if I ever win the lotto" car until I watched a couple reviews/videos on the GT350R, what a wicked cool rocket that car is, I've even been following a few on the Bay :D , they seem to be going for around 100k. Just love the way they sound and that high revving power plant.

The GT350R and Hellcat are awesome, but I'd still rather have a Corvette Z06 if I had lottery money (And a '67 427 powered Vette to go along with it).

Not sure who's watched the <$10,000 LS vs. Coyote shootout build done by EngineLabs, but it's quite interesting.

So question (in the spirit of SpyderEdgeForever)...is there a moral factor at play with making extremely fast cars?

I would argue that a $440,000 Porsche GT is dangerous but the price paid and understanding make the performance justified. The estate of Paul Walker argues the opposite. Still, given the skill of people who should buy a car like that, the cost involved, and general unapologetic design philosophy I don't feel it's a problem. I'm sure the Bugatti Veyron has scared and hurt people before but it's hardly a problem for the the general public. IE: The near-injuries and injuries are in the single digit world.

I think for cars that are attainable by normal people there isn't enough paperwork involved in selling something so capable at killing them. Any domestic with 350whp+ is able to get people in big trouble and quickly. A stab of the throttle and in a few seconds you are able to get a neg driving ticket (or worse). Again, not a problem for some people who are rational and remotely to highly skilled...but a parent who wants to buy their kid a "fun car"?

Even cars like the Tesla that non-1%'ers can finance (albeit painfully...) are dead silent and able to pick up speed at an astounding rate. They are the software engineer's dream that used to be cars like the Corvette and Viper. I remember seeing two Viper GTS' crash IN ONE DAY at the local open track day. Both victims of snap-oversteer and a driver who was grossly underskilled. Luckily you don't see many Tesla Models S' on the track as I understand they pretty much heat into limp mode after a couple hard laps. Still, you only need one straight-away and one tight corner to make for a sad start to the weekend.

Driving my Miata I feel it's too much car for me. In that, it's limits are far higher than mine are (and probably always will be). 200whp give or take is enough to get me in trouble. If I had twice that much power and less capable suspension/braking systems I'm not sure I would feel comfortable. It's a car that was designed for people who have fun and pull off stupid feats at fairly low speeds; credit to the designers rather than the idiot behind the wheel.

What do you all think?

PS: Still a giant fan of all these fast cars and love how prices are reasonable. Just not sure it's "good" for the person needing attention at any cost.

Modern cars really are overpowered for the young and stupid.
Hopefully in the future with electric cars you could choose a driver profile with less torque/top speed for when your child is driving it?
