Interesting um..sharpness video test

#1

Post by Liquid Cobra »

Randomly found this on YouTube today. I think he is trying to compare sharpness between two para 2's with different steels simply by cutting paper. Or is he comparing edge retention? Not sure. What I do know is that he has a rather large Spyderco bug logo tattooed on his hand. I'll leave it at that.

I like it. With this measure to test sharpness, who needs the CATRA testing? :D

I think he's testing the wear resistance of paper! That poor paper is getting so abused. He didn't tell us which type of CPM paper that is. :)

He did make the observation that the "rockiness" could indeed be higher, that could be why the knife performed so well. That said it did look like it was loosing its edge towards the end of the test but it was a pretty big sheet of paper and he attacked it from a number of different angles :D

Ok I always test my knives on paper after I sharpen them...That said...then I have to resharpen them and strop them on diamond paste to get them to final cutting ability....gee this guy save me a lot of diamond paste stropping not only to mention the paper I saved....It's a blessing in disguise....thank god there are people on U tube like this that know what they are doing!!!!! LMAO.......I think I will do a You tube video on how well Spyderco Knives cuts cinder block... I know everyone here would really appreciate that!!!!!.....Doc:)

I plan on getting a bug tattoo eventually, I just have no idea where. I even mentioned it to my tattoo guy while he was working on my sleeve and he said next time he has black ink out to let him know where I want it and it won't take but 10 minutes to bust out. Just have to figure out a better place than right on the side of my hand lol.

Hey I'll sell some sponsorship space to Spyderco if they're buying. Forehead space is very expensive though, for that it's going to cost them at least one of every new model knife they put out for the rest of my life :D

I wonder if he could make another video where he tests one of the knifes cutting parallel to the lines of the lined paper and then the other cutting perpendicular to the lines and perhaps on one of the tests he could kind of grimace and scrunch up his lip while cutting and the other raise his right eyebrow. Then ... we would be talking some real world data.

Stand back- he's doing SCIENCE! ;)
Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.

I don't have an issue with the bug tattoo, its the placement...

I love Spyderco and I've thought of a bug logo tat before but I don't know that I would ever permanently draw a company's logo on my body. If there was ever a company logo to do it with though, it would be Spyderco :)
