Imagine if you took a Gayle Bradley folder....
And made it a frame lock with full contoured and textured titanium scales. Then you gave the blade a beautiful flatgrind and a profile that provided a slightly sharper tip. You kept the m4 blade steel but ground it to be a mean slicer at .010 behind the edge. And then after all that, just for grins, you gave it a ball bearing pivot and a flipper??
I'm betting it would look something like this knife that I picked up in Weatherford, Texas last weekend. :D

Lance, your killing me!
Should we understand that Mr. Bradley has a Spyderco license for that hole?

That's a cool pivot screw. Nice looking knife.
Marc, I don't know the details, but I want to say that when a collaboration is done, there is some sort of agreement made about using the hole. It's not like Spyderco is going to say "you're not allowed to make a custom version of the knife that you designed for us to produce."

Yes, the Spyderhole is used by license from Spyderco.
As far as the actual model, he is calling this one the Bradley Flipper. Though Mr. Bradley has a very distinctive style and this model does share some similarities with the Spyderco knife, this one is an altogether different animal. I just mentioned the similarities because this knife embodies so much of what I love about the Spyderco GB while being a completely different (and more refined) knife in my opinion. The Bradley Flipper has a grind that is a cutters dream. It is also a completely different knife in pocket...and in hand. I am waiting on calipers to get the exact thickness but it is similar to a delica. It absolutely disappears in the pocket and here's the real kicker...it only weighs 3.4 ounces! The ergonomics? I will have to use the word refined again. This knife is like one of my favorite Spydercos in that as soon as you hold it and start to use it you realize what a massive about of thought has gone into the design and its functionality. This one is an absolute winner!

How much of the hole is exposed when it is closed?
By the way, your thread title, when formatted on the front page... it is very suspicious looking:

Hey Brian, here is a picture showing the hole when closed. partially occluded but easily accessible, especially considering how thin the scales are.Donut wrote:How much of the hole is exposed when it is closed?

What do you mean by "very suspicious looking"? I thought it would be more appropriate to post this in off topic since this is a custom and not a Spyderco.
Edit: Buahahahah...nevermind, I'm just really slow. :D :D

While this is certainly a different knife than we saw at Amsterdam, I see that it has the unique texture in common. I really loved that texture, and hope that Spyderco can achieve it in a production setting.

Very nice, love the grind!

Would you be able to elaborate on some of those differences?tvenuto wrote:While this is certainly a different knife than we saw at Amsterdam, I see that it has the unique texture in common. I really loved that texture, and hope that Spyderco can achieve it in a production setting.
Re: Imagine if you took a Gayle Bradley folder....
Sure, from what I remember, the general shape was the same, of both handle and blade. Blade was FFG, and no dual finish. Handle was slightly contoured Ti, and had the same "orange peel" texture, but no milled divots. Believe it was a linerlock as well. Pivot was simple.hoimin wrote:Would you be able to elaborate on some of those differences?

Doesn't sound too dramatically different, and looks to be a homerun.

Using a knife like this must make you feel like it's your birthday everyday, congrat's Lance :)
Do you know what heat treat Gayle used on this one and is it similar to your M4 Phil Wilson? I hope you'll share some testing results and comparisons of both knives :)

Between the Phil Wilson's and now this Bradley it seems you have the custom bug now! I hear it is more expensive than the Spyderbug. Thanks for sharing, that is one unique piece.
