In fact they were the first ones who pioneered the idea of fusing classical music and rock in the late 60's.

This may be of interest for you. It is the third movement of a piece called "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" composed by Jon Lord, Deep Purple's organist and performed by the the group and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

This band was one of the pioneers of hard rock, along with groups like Steppenwolf. They predated Ozzy by nearly a decade.
