I just can't believe they are that stupid to believe a National Police Force is the answer.

Socialism would be assured very soon after that happened.

Life Lesson #8190: If a cop asks about your knife, don't start booking it down the street.

One of my clients works for the Sheriff's Dept and told me that the street Gray was picked up on is absolutely notorious for drug dealing and other illicit behavior. He said they'll actually take the long way around that area if it's the end of their shift to avoid having to arrest someone for something.

Fine young 25 year old though with only 18 arrests on 22 counts. His record is online.

This is true. There are a few people making arguments that he shouldn't have been arrested in the first place, but those don't hold really hold water. As you said, he was a known miscreant that ran from the police on sight. Also, he was in an area notorious for drug activity according to my officer client, and he had prior drug convictions (as can be seen in the record). It's also possible that he was personally recognized by one of the officers.

That said, beyond possibly helping to determine whether his injuries were self-inflicted, his past convictions have little to do with how he was, or should be, treated in police custody. Having many convictions is not an excuse to injure someone or deny them medical treatment. I'm not so naive to think that some perpetrators aren't rough-handled at times by the police. However, like corporal punishment from parents, you walk a fine line, and must bear full responsibility for crossing it.

NONE of these are grounds for being arrested. IMO this is probably the most relevant part of the case when it comes to "civil liberties". Of course, we don't have all the information and there might have been a legitimate reason for the arrest other than the ones listed above.

Obviously judging "probable cause" is a bit out of our depth (as none of us are judges), so perhaps I overstepped myself in my previous post. I would think, however, if a police officer attempts to speak with you, or tells you to stop and you run, a case could be made for "probable cause." If instead you say calmly: "I don't believe you have a reason to stop me" and continued about your business, that seems to be different, at least to me. However, you're correct in saying that we really don't have all the info and speculation about what happened is pointless.

Edit: For reference, I was interested to know after this came up. ACLU MD, what to do if stopped.

That's the goal of the left. They want to tear this country down to bedrock and begin over in their mold. The more turmoil the better for them. The more scared, pissed or desperate the voters become the easier to manipulate. Note I'm not talking about your average liberal or progressive from either party. I'm talking about the hard core left which in our political system means socialists/communists.

They are well funded by the billionaires they claim to despise. Strange but true. :)

I was watching a show on netflix called "Speed Kills." It's about predators that utilize speed in the animal kingdom and watching them work in slow motion. It's totally awesome, by the way, and worth a look (yet another feather in the cap of modern TV: ultra high-speed cameras).

The one I watched last night was about the ocean, and one of the animals they featured was the Gannet Bird, which dives into the water at 60mph to catch sardines. They dive up to 30ft down, and will even swim around if their initial shot misses a fish.

Image

They live on an island with thousands of their closest friends and family. They raise their chicks on the island, and bring it back food to eat.

However, one day, the food stops coming. The chick begs and begs, but nope, dad and mom (who have been alternately watching and feeding it in equal parts) have got nothing for it. It's time for the chick to try to fly off of the island. Now that seems simple for a bird, but because their wing shape is specialized for diving, they have trouble taking off. This is especially hard for the chicks, who have never flown before and whose wings are weaker. But an empty belly is a strong motivator, so they all line up and give it their best effort. 25% of them fail, and get eaten by fur seals, but the other 75% grow up to become functional and productive Gannet birds, who are so impressive that, unbeknownst to them, humans watch them work for entertainment.

I think everyone here understands how this relates.

Edit: here's the actual bit:

I have been watching those too. Amazing! They have no nostrils on their beaks and an air cushion in their skull to protect their brain because they hit the water so fast.
