Reinhold Rhino - fit to hand & 1 Hand close method

#1

Post by MichaelScott »

I made this short video about how my Rhino fits with a couple of different grips, and a simple one-hand close method I worked out. The blade is too light to fall freely and I don’t want to loosen the pivot.

I also discovered that the negative blade angle puts the point in the centerline of any forward push move. Nice design touch, Mr Reinhold. I am liking and understanding this knife more every day.

Michael, I kind of get the impression you like this little knife.

I’ll pick one up myself before too long. :)

Strangely enough, I do. I was initially unimpressed when it was finally released but the design and quality drew me in. It’s a solid and unique design and excellently produced by Spyderco.

We are under a pre-evacuation Alert here. We have a 5000 acre wild fire about 3 or 4 miles west of town. Looks like the winds will drive it more northerly and easterly but we won’t know until morning. I’m so tired and fell, again in the back yard darkness that I need to sleep.

Not on topic but may explain my frequent absences.

Wow, that doesn’t sound too good at all. Hope you’re OK and you’re all safe there!

We are packed and ready to roll if necessary. The fire is now 14,000 acres. I think it is burning generally away from town but time will tell.

I was thinking the same as Vivi. I didn't know it was that small. I guess it's similar in size to the Dragonfly?
Good luck and stay safe.

Yes, similar. But the egos are different, feels bigger in hand. I think the cutting edge is the same as my UKPK.

And, I’m 6’ 3” and 210 pounds so my hands are somewhat large.

Until you mentioned the dragonfly I thought you guys were talking about the size of the fire. I was like "I don't know, guys, 14,000 acres seems pretty big to me..."

I added this to mine and it opens in a flash and the extra weight of the stud allows the blade to free fall. I did take a little Torx out of the pivot screw. :)

That’s an interesting modification. I don’t care for studs on a blade but it seems to have improved the operation for you. I’m willing to use my one-hand closing technique which does require repetition to run smoothly. Let us know if you like the mod enough to keep it.
