Spyderco Tuff regrind

#1

Post by razorsharp »

Hey guys. Just thought I would show off my latest regrind. A Tuff thinned out to about 0.004 to 0.005" behind the 14dps edge. I have done some tests and it's holding up fine (chopped wood, cut boxes, pried open a paint can) . Gonna be fun to try out, will be rotating it with my new lionsteel Sr1. The grind height, If it didn't have a fuller, would probably look exactly the same, steel was basically only removed from behind the edge and not so much the back of the grind

I was really hard to get them consistent with the worn 80 grit, when I order new belts I'll attack it with a fresh one which will leave it more consistent

Thanks man

How do you manage heat doing that?

Gets dunked in water every pass or 2, it only ever gets slightly warm at worst. I dunk it even if I can't feel heat

...... Now I've gotta get this done to mine someday soon. How thick did you keep the tip?

That is a beautiful grind, well done.

I keep the tip thicker if the customer wants me to. Some knives I'll do that to anyway. I was going to keep the tip at 0.010+" but decided screw it, and made it all consistent

This regrind looks terrific Travis. How close was the belt to the upper blade flat?

Do you have an opinion about grinding S30V that thin? ai think it would be sweet on my Navaja.

Don't beat the crap out of it putting side loads on the knife when it's ground thin and it should be fine. S30v should be perfectly fine at about 0.006" behind the edge and should be good for heavier use at 0.010" behind the edge plus or minus a little. (like hard whittling with torque, careful battoning)

Very nicely done, keep us updated on how it performs. Mine gets side loaded at times doing home improvement stuff. Tip looks quite nice going by your latest pictures.

Good job. Love the look of that. A lot of regrinds look a bit severe. This one has a nice resonant quality with the design of the blade, and it sounds like it still holds up pretty well for a tuff knife. Very tempting stuff.

Agree. I love how you got it thin behind the edge without butchering the fuller. Very nice work sir.
