What is your little big knife preference?
Re: What is your little big knife preference?
When I want a very little knife, it is a Kiwi lockback. Sometimes, I may pocket a Michael Walker, but I often have a Chaparral in my pocket. It is not so little.

I guess it is perspective. I consider the Chaparral and the Native a LBK. The Caly 3 is borderline. Not until the edge breaks 3.5" do I consider it normal. I also think 30 round magazines are standard magazines... :Dbh49 wrote:I made closest choice : Japan: Ladybug, Manbug, Dragonfly. Actually I do not carry any of these knives. My choice Kopa and jester. Still Japan.
Also, I would never thought about Chaparral as a LBK. for me it clear mid size folder.
When you carry a Military all the time, everything else is a LBK right Hans?Brock O Lee wrote:My little big knife is a Caly 3, so I do not think my opinion counts! :p
The lockback Kiwi is a personal favorite of mine too.arty wrote:When I want a very little knife, it is a Kiwi lockback. Sometimes, I may pocket a Michael Walker, but I often have a Chaparral in my pocket. It is not so little.

I really like the Ti Chaparral despite having XHP instead of Cruwear. :) I'm not in to small knives that much but I really like this one. Dragonfly in Super Blue is a very nice choice too, and much more affordable as well.

If the lil lionspy is small enough...Italy.
Re: What is your little big knife preference?
Does anyone here like the idea of a Dodo in a bigger scale? Like a bigger/wider blade>> a thicker more ridgid handle>> the same ball bearing lock>> And some other steel besides S30V???
Or am I the only one who thinks that maybe a larger sized Dodo is a good idea?
I'll stay with a G-10 handle but I would want SE & PE both.

I can relate to this. I don't have one anymore, sold it in a moment of poor judgment, but the Cricket is definitely on my "regain" list. Crazily versatile edge profile, tons of character, disappears in a change pocket. Great little knife.bearfacedkiller wrote:" … Am I really the only one on here who carries a Cricket and loves it? … "

I like products from all those countries, but my most used LBKs are the Techno and Dragonfly.
Re: What is your little big knife preference?
I'm voting Techno. I've also got a dragonfly (zdp) but I consider it a small knife, not so much of a little big knife. A lbk for me is one that is up to heavier tasks. My Boker Pipsqueak is a nice lbk but is right carry only and doesn't have a pointy enough tip for some of my edc tasks.
If you're wielding the sharpest tool in the shed, who's going to say that you aren't...?
Re: What is your little big knife preference?
For me it's the ZDP Dragonfly. I've polished the blade a bit, mirror edged it & am amazed at how versatile, easy to carry & utilitarian it really is. I carry it when pocket space is very limited & I still need something to work with. Simply an amazing design in form & function, it's also my smallest Spyderco.

Re: What is your little big knife preference?
Guess it depends on your definition of "little big knife". I'd have to go with Japan in your poll, since I'd place the Jester, Lava, and original Kiwi in that category. OTOH, while I love my Chaparral, I consider it a midsize folder. A fine line to be sure, but each of us has to draw it somewhere.
Definitely the knives and not the country although, while Spyderco maker in Taichung does fantastic work, they've yet to a single knife that isn't put together with visible screws. I'm inclined to believe that flush pin construction is different enough from screw together that it's hard to say how well a company that excels at the later would do on something comparable to the original bolster and scales Kiwis or the Micro Dyads. Heck, I'm not totally convince that even Chris Reeve could do that as well as Moki and G Sakai.

Have to go with Taiwan because of the Techno. Can't think of a Spydie that is so big in so little a package.

Re: What is your little big knife preference?
The Gayle Bradley Air and Chapparal are two of my favorites so Taiwan it is for me. FRN really does nothing for me. Although I know better I still feel its a "cheap" handle material. If lightweight is your reason for liking FRN then do yourself a favor and take a close look at the Air. Obviously if you abuse your knife or get it filthy dirty then the cost for a more premium "gentleman's" knife may not be justified.
Re: What is your little big knife preference?
I haven't tried enough LBKs to really be willing to limit myself to one favorite, but I'd like to see a G-10 Chicago with a tactical black blade :D
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod
Note to self: Less is more.

The Poliwog G10 is (for me) LBK nirvana. Like the Power Glove..."It's so bad."

All about the SE Dragonfly Salt, I like the Golden Blades and I'd like to see them get back into this field. Golden Blades are my fave. Can't beat the PM2, M2, or Millie. One of them is typically paired with a D-Fly or a Lady/Manbug.
