Spyderco perfection has a big window

#1

Post by jackknifeh »

How many times have we heard the question "What is the perfect EDC knife?" The exact answer is "lots of times". :) I'd like to say that I just realized I have a perfection window for my perfect EDC knife. I will put two knives within this window. Chaparral and Caly 3. Any models you want of each. The Chaparral is smaller than the Caly 3 by a little bit. They are different enough to definitely call them different but for me BOTH ARE PERFECT.

The Michael Walker is also a PERFECT EDC knife for me. But sometimes we need to limit our window. Otherwise every Spyderco would be perfect.

Does anyone else have two or more knives that you consider both to be perfect as an EDC knife for your needs?

Agreed. The PM2 blade length is pretty perfect for my needs. I still with it the blade/handle ratio was closer, but I'm thinking that might just be an aesthetics thing. Sal and Eric know their stuff.
Most recently acquired: Military 2, Paramilitary 2 Tanto x2, YoJUMBO, Swayback, Siren, DLC Yojimbo 2, Native Chief, Shaman S90V, Para 3 LW, Ikuchi, UKPK, Smock, SUBVERT, Amalgam, Para 3 CTS-XHP, Kapara, Paramilitary 2 M390
Grail Paramilitary 2 M390 X 2! ACHIEVED!!

The blade to handle ratio is indeed a bit different to others on the pm2.
But i like it. It makes it stand out from the rest.
And indeed Sal and Eric know what they are doing. I wish i could learn from Sal personally because i think he knows more about knives then we all do together. :)

GB, PM2, Dragonfly, Dodo, Endura, Delica, Caly 3.5, Native, Centofante 3, etc. etc.
All "perfect" EDC knives, it just depens on where you are and where you need a sharpened edge :D
A tiger has claws.
A wolf has teeth.
An eagle has talons.
We, have Spyderco.

The Manbug and Ladybug are my perfect EDC's Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM. :) On the weekends, I'll change things up and maybe throw a Lionspy or Rubicon into the mix.

I have a pretty large window, but my most perfect EDCs are: Delica, Caly 3/3.5, PITS Folder, and Para 2. Also Dragonfly or Chaparral on the smaller end. Many others work well too. So many great knives.

My window is wide open as well, and also enjoys a variety of scenery to look at through it! I like changing it up, but my typicals are Delica and Caly 3, but have recently been seeing a Yojimbo 2 peeking through, as well as my Stretch for days I want more blade, and Lava or Dragonfly SB for days I want a smaller folder hidden away. (I just picked up that Lava recently because I saw one here in the "blue" thread and fell in love with it. Like a baby brother to the Caly IMO)
I like my Chaparral 1, but maybe more for dress attire, I don't carry it that often.
Going back to Caly.

I believe we share similar interests.
Current favorite: Manix 2 with carbon fiber scales and cru-ware.

The two I always switch between to carry are any Native and the Meerkat. I don't know if I'd say perfect though they sure work for my needs. I also have a Lava and a Kiwi that seem to find time in my pocket.

My "perfect" Spyderco these days is a Caly 3.5. It's quite slender despite needing the hole opening hump.

I've done this long enough to know my "perfect" changes after a few years.
I like framelocks/linerlocks so:
Sage 2
Chinese
*These are 3" blades with fairly thin handles and not unduly heavy.

Dominos are so fun to flip, it's addicting.
Going back to Caly.

Big thumbs up from me. The cf Chaparral was my 2nd Spydie out of 20ish? and is still my most carried. Looks sharp (no pun intended,) thin stock, feels great in hand, very lightweight, dark deep carry clip, under $100... I was sold on it right away.

I only just got a Caly 3, in super blue. I bought it to use it, but I'm still savoring the victory of the bnib find, lol :) This one is going to stay minty fresh for a little bit. I'm also very positive about the UKPK (aka the Lightweight Caly 3 Slipit) and of course the 3.5. The 3.5 is a little big for my work setting, but it's a user for sure.

For all the people who like Carbon Fiber and want a G-10 Dragonfly, the Nishijin/ZDP Dragonfly sprint from a couple of years ago didn't seem to be very popular!
