what's in a name?

#1

Post by spyder moist »

Has the spyderco forum ever named a knife?
I think maybe the spy-dk was mentioned on a forum? (Possibly??).
But has their been an actual competition to name a in house spyderco design?
If so what was the winning name(s) of the knife.

Just curious really as I think getting the right name for a knife is actually quite hard! :)

There was a Spyderco slogan contest a couple years ago, can't remember who won that. I haven't been around long enough to see a knife name contest and I'm at about 4.5 years.

FWIW David, I've been coming here for over 11 years and I haven't seen a "name the new model" contest either.

I suppose there could have been a suggestion by a member or members that could have been used or modified, but I strongly suspect Paul would have remembered it. Just yesterday I was whining for a Delicura, exact scale of Delica, but halfway between Delica and Endura.

I also suggested once that they should make an SE Ambitious and call it the Pugnacious :) but so far, no dice.

If I were a betting person, I might speculate that some collaborator is a forum member and had input into the naming of his knife, and maybe win on a technicality (ignoring the competition part of the question). Or, once again, I could probably just ask Paul and not have to speculate ;)
