Does your Domino do this?

#1

Post by amue »

Hey guys,

I just got the Domino and so far, I'm loving it.

I have noticed the slightest of lock rock, though. Not blade play, but if you grab the blade tightly and wiggle it up and down, you can feel the lockbar give a little.
Also, when you hold the knife sideways with two hands and push against the blade, as if you were trying to make it fold (I'm pretty sure you know what technique I mean) you can definitely hear and feel the lockbar moving a slight amount.

Does your Domino do this as well?

I do not have a Domino, but I've heard others talking about the same thing. I think your lock needs to be broken in a bit, and then the lock should stay put. I could be wrong, but I'm sure someone else will be able to help. :) Good luck!

Mine locks up super solid with no play as well. (I have the blue G-10 sprint from Bento Box Shop.) I love it.

The Domino is a pretty technical knife to build, so I think there are occasional issues with them. The first Domino I owned had some bad washers or washer raceways that weren't cut quite precisely enough or something which caused it to have too much friction when opening to be able to flip consistently. I ended up returning that one and then taking a gamble that the blue G-10 model would not have any issues. Luckily I seem to have gotten a really good one the second time around.

I would say if the lock doesn't improve over time as MattM68 suggested, you might think about sending it in for a warranty check.

It may be a problem. Having said that, sometimes this goes away after a little use. How long have you had it? What percentage is your lockup?(very early lockup sometimes does that)
I say, use it a little more, then decide.
Spydercos rarely do this!

No play in any direction on my BBS 204P Domino.

A little info on mine: I have had it for about two months; lockup at about 40%.

Hi gull wing,

I've had it for a couple of days now. Lockup is ca. 40%.
Yep I hope it'll go away. Sending a knife in for warranty from here takes sooo long :(

Ouch! Germany yes that would be a long wait. I feel your pain.

40% is perfect for a lockup
You may try cutting some wood(soft pine, etc), so as to work it hard a few times. Then test for lock slippage. If it's still is a problem, well you know what to do.

good luck

Hi Andreas,

maybe it's worth a try to contact Böker or Acma Reus, these are the two main retailers of Spyderco here in Germany.
At least Acma Reus dealt with some warranty issues in the past.

This is one reason I don't prefer stainless inserts. They just seem too "slippery" most of the time.

This is one of the reasons Ti is preferred for frame locks, Ti tends to gall against steel.

That's why I examine every knife I get, when I get it. If it's screwed up, it's going back... To the seller.

Good luck! It should be perfect for you, it's a darn near-perfect design IMHO.
