K390 Manix 2

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

Sal, is there any possibility of a Manix 2 in K390? This knife really needs this steel. Having a back lock version in this steel would be a plus for me, though others would prefer the CBBL.

The Knifeworks exclusive Manix 2 52100 has the right look. That dark gray handle with the black DLC blade is one of the best looking knives I have seen.

(I believe the original company that ordered those knives was not knifeworks.com but knifeworks.com ended up with them for some reason. I do not know which company. I just made a deduction based on something one of the employees said. I could be wrong.)

Backlock, or CBBL...... but NO DLC. Other than that, I'm in.

This is a great idea! I'd be in for either a backlock or CBBL. The steel really would fit the Manix2 well

Backlock! I'd skip the cbbl but I've been waiting for an excuse to pick up a Manix 2 backlock

OK, I guess I have been living under a rock. I have been hearing vague rumblings about a Manix 2 back lock, and just did the search and found that -- by golly -- you can buy one in S30V right now. And watched a video review, and doggone if this doesn't look like a good thing. So, one of these in K390 would be fantastic. The less agressive G10 is great, and really it is quite a different knife. Like a giant Native. Looks good.

It is not good, it is great. You really need to get one.

OK, OK -- I placed the order. After hearing that the Manix lockback has the same reengineered lockback as the Native 5 (my only lockback and the knife that made me rethink my bad attitude about lockbacks) I figure this is a good addition. One thing I have thought about (when stuck in traffic and such) is the plastic piece that holds the ball in the CBBL Manix 2 -- that will crumble to powder and the rest of the knife will be good for generations. I can have confidence that the lockback manix will be in good shape to hand to my grandchildren - once they are at least 6 months old.

All that aside, my Native 5 has been interesting. It doesn't fly open, and at first that concerned me, but I am growing to like that just fine. (My Native is the green scale linerless S90V model). I could care less about closing a knife one handed, and I have to admit I like the way it snaps into lock with authority. If the lockback manix is an upscale version of this knife, life will be good.

Also, I figure purchasing a lockback manix will provide that much more encouragement to Spyderco to make more, including one in K390 !!

Rather see it on the back lock version just for variety.

If they could make the ergos on the Manix 2 back lock as good as those on the Manix 2 LW I'd be in. The BL version feels blocky by comparison. I love the texture of the G10 and the smoothness of the operation, just needs to be thinned down and refined a bit.

Ever think about sanding/contouring the handle corners down a bit?

The CBBL is my favorite lock mechanism, but if it was a back lock, I'd still buy it.

I guess I'm into this no matter how it's made. I think I'd like the same look as the KW 52100 model, if I get to pick.
