Delica's Name

#1

Post by GaryC »

Question on the Delica, been carrying a Spyderco for years, love simple design on the Endura & Delica FFgs. I would like to know what a delica means & how it's name became. I may be missing something here. Thanks for any info. Gary

for me i guess it is well-suited for the delicate tasks this blade can handle but it doesn't mean the knife itself is delicate.
im interested too especially what Sal and the guys here has to say though.

I read somewhere an explanation given by Sal on the name, I seem to remember. What it was, I do not recall. I do know that Delica is a woman's name (not common nowadays) and it is the name of a van Mitsubishi markets around the world.

From this 9 year old thread that asked what Sal was thinking when he named the Delica:

"What was I thinking?" That's a pretty personal question ;)

I was trying to create a manufactured name. I came up with "Endura" after much thought and dictionary time, "Delica" seemed like a good idea at the time.

Of course the knife isn't delicate, just a play on words like Civilian.
