Thanks for the pictures guys.

Did not think the Air was so small, much like the Dragonfly 2 I already have.

Thinking Chappy will be the way to go.
On my radar: 110V Military, Police 4 and some sweet Rex 45 Military action.

Newest Spydies: S90v Ti Military, Pacific Salt and a special Kiwi.

I bought one a few weeks ago...but still can't bring myself to carry and use it! It's by FAR the nicest and most expensive knife I've owned to date....

My theory is that it's reserved for fancy dates and events...

Go ahead. Use it. It is screaming to be used to cut something. It wants to be fondled and carried. It wants to be shown off.

I'm carrying mine today. Perfect knife for suit carry. Just slip it in the jacket breast pocket and forget about it until you need it. When you do, you have a classy, non-threatening knife that still allows plenty of blade and a 4 finger grip (w/choil). two thumbs up

Bonus points because on weekends, it fits clipped inside the coin pocket of jeans, so still discreet and comfortable.

EDIT: whoops. clicked the quote button instead of the pencil button. sry for double post

I thought this myself when I got my first Chap, the CF version, but that changed the more I handled it and finally clipped it in my shirt pocket. Now it goes with me everyday and because I have it with me I enjoy it all the more.

They are dangerously addicting though....... After all the great deals last weekend as found here on the forum I now own 3 more of the little creatures. My empty wallet hates me but it's going to be a great Christmas! :D

I am sorely disappointed that there is not a new version in the new catalog.

Im fairly new, but it was my understanding that the namesake comes from the perennial nature of the shrubs, and that the point was to have it come out with new scale materials annually. I would have loved a natural wooden option. Might still make some chaparral walnut scales early next year. I will be sure to submit pics if I do. How nice would it look in rosewood with stainless bolsters?

Thanks for the inspiration guys. I carried my Chap today for the first time...around the house! Ha. Baby steps...

Seriously though, before I take her out into the big bad world, any suggestions on what to do to the edge? I was thinking a few strokes on the Sharpmaker to uncover a little fresh steel before using it. Planning to try at 30 to see if I'm hitting the apex...

Thoughts? Would you use medium and fine stones or just fine for a light "pre-use" sharpening? Do you run the Chap at 30 or 40 inclusive, or something else? I'd really like to just use the Sharpmaker myself and intend to hone it often to avoid any real dulling

Also...stropping recommended for this blade? Or does the steel respond better to a more course edge? (I have to XHP version...)

I never really use the fine stones, just 40 degrees brown rods till the edge gets too thick then reprofile at 30 degrees and repeat (I would highly recommend diamond rods if you are going to reprofile).

They come from factory ~30 degrees so you need to use 40 degrees to hit the edge

I'd be curious in this information as well. I do note that Smoky Mountain Knife Works' 10% / 15% / 20% discount and $5 shipping cyber Monday coupon still seems to work (CYBER15S) even though it is no longer advertised. Chap 3 is $264. Chap 2 is $162. Chap 1 sold out.

Here's where I got my latest Chap at a price I thought was pretty good. ;)

Yep, that's the place. They have raised the price a bit since I checked.

I can't figure out why Spyderco doesn't release a 4th version of this knife. Actually the last two have just been different variants of titanium. Would love something a little different yet still gentlemanly.

Honestly, although I own all CF, Ti and Stepped Ti, I can't see a need for anything but the CF. It always edges the Ti out of my pocket.
