Rescue Bug for Bikers?
Re: Rescue Bug for Bikers?
I new tje lady bug rescue would work out congrats on the find.I heard a wile baclk sal lost money on that run but so much of the time spyderco is way ahead of its time so a not popular run can remerge into a winner.I no lockingk nives are a no no in England but if they see the size and what you are using it for I think they will look the otherway.here in nj if I have a use for the knife like work or hunting or fishing its legal.

It's often seems the way that the world needs time to catch up with its innovators!
I know the various full size Assist and Rescue options would be functionally better, but I know I just won't carry them absolutely every time on the bike. Might get one for the car, though ....

I think the Ladybug4 is a huge improvement over the II/III. Large hole and decent ergonomics; I can actually one-hand them quite easily.
Glad you found an old Ladybug II Rescue. For me I would prob get a hawkbill Salt and just blunt the tip.

Sorry, brain fart. I was thinking Delica/Endura4.Spydergirl88 wrote:Ladybug 4?!Blerv wrote:I think the Ladybug4 is a huge improvement over the II/III. Large hole and decent ergonomics; I can actually one-hand them quite easily.

Yea there are only three Ladybug's. The II was only in the Rescue blade.

Re: Rescue Bug for Bikers?
I thought about that a bit more and concluded a) that a blunt tip Hawkbill would only ever be a strap cutter, and be much less useful for anything else, b) I could/would have wrecked a $70 (UK prices) knife, and c) Sal's purpose made design will be most fit for purpose and one was surprisingly, actually still available for me to buy!Blerv wrote:I think the Ladybug4 is a huge improvement over the II/III. Re: Rescue Bug for Bikers?
You dont want to have to gring a tip off.it is not easy to do with pinned construction unless you have the propper tools.

I agree that shears and/or a shroud cutting hook seem like they would be much safer.Dodge wrote:I hate to say this but I think a set of trauma shears would be the best tool. That way you could focus on a bigger knife for other cutting tasks at the scene. An Assist and shear combo would be neat in a belt pouch or a pocket sheath.

Great idea!aesmith wrote:Wouldn't a seatbelt cutter be more appropriate?

Re: Rescue Bug for Bikers?
A friend is selling me a toxic green USN Ladybug with the serrated hawkbill blade. Other than the hard to find sheepsfoot LB2 I think this would be almost perfect if you rounded the tip just a little bit so it wasn't pointy but still had a nice hook to it.

Re: Rescue Bug for Bikers?
The seatbelt cutters I've seen tend to be quite bulky - a chin strap on a full face motorcycle helmet can be awkward to get at.aesmith wrote:Wouldn't a seatbelt cutter be more appropriate?
Touring, I always carry a SAK Outrider in with all the kit anyway (mainly for the bottle opener, obviously) but weekend riding is just keys/wallet/phone and go.
The Ladybug Rescue is absolutely ideal, a real no-brainier - although I hope never to have to use it as intended. It's such a good idea I'm a little surprised it didn't sell better and stay in the line-up.

Re: Rescue Bug for Bikers?
Yay. My LB2 arrived. Absolutely perfect for what I want it for. Got spotted by customs, but hey...
I've never seen that type box before.
Many thanks to American Edge.

I was also going to suggest trying to find one of the HB Ladybugs. Glad you were able to fine one!
