Custom Southard Flipper+Compression Lock

#1

Post by Liquid Cobra »

I hope this qualifies as Spyderco related.

Brad Southard has made a custom flipper with a compression lock for blade show. If you look him up on Instagram you can see a quick video of it in action.

Man, throw a Spyder hole on that thing and I'm all set. After the positron, this would make a nice collaboration Sal :)

The Spyderco Southard is already a collaboration of the AWT, so I'd be down to see a compression lock put on a different knife of his. Maybe a Tarsus with compression lock.

Also, that is one sexy knife.

I could've sworn I remembered another custom knife maker using a licensed compression lock on his knives, and I was right. Jarosz Knives also has some customs with the comp-lock. Perhaps there could be a collaboration in the future as well *fingers crossed*.

Very nice! It reminds me of some of the bobbed Spyderco Southards that I've seen, but with a compression lock.

Bobbed? Could you elaborate?

There have been some pimpers that have modified the Southard by making the handle and blade a little shorter. Here is one example from bladeforum:

Ah. Thanks Remnar, I've seen those yeah. They look nice. Typically I'm wanting more blade, not less but those modifications work for me.

I wish I could afford Brad's stuff. He has come such a long way from modding Spydies.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

His mid-techs are well priced if you can get them direct from him. I've been kicking myself for a few months because I ended up canceling my Tolk pre-order.

Brad had a CF Tolk at his table at Blade Show that is really nice. I think he said he may do a run of those when he gets the CF dialed in, so you may have another chance to pick one up. It was a very nice knife.

I got to handle his comp lock flipper and it was an amazing knife.
