Slysz Bowie review - some of my thoughts and practical use
Slysz Bowie review - some of my thoughts and practical use
Well... I've been carrying and using this folder for a good couple of months now... in winter, spring and now in summer-like weather. Mountains, fields and forests. Some of my thought below...
BTW, I've got two now, one at home and another one as 'backup EDC' in my wooden cabin (so I'm never without fine knife when I go there Friday afternoon straight from the office).
You can read (and hopefully enjoy) my full review here: http://www.motusworld.com/2015/05/revie ... lysz-bowie" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Excellent review, write up, and pics!
Re: Slysz Bowie review - some of my thoughts and practical use
:) Great review, enjoyed it immensely. Thanks for the great pictures as well.
Q - How did you tolerate the top part of the handle when bearing down hard on the knife? That part of the handle bites my palm a little.
Otherwise I can find no wrong with this knife.

Actually I didn't find it too bad, more or less large Sebenza 21 level and surely easier for my hand than small Sebenza or Strider SnG-CC (the one with nicely contoured handle as well). For me it's a good compromise between strength and low-profile of EDC. If I'd need something more substantial in my pocket I'd go with Strider SnG (regular, not CC) or Spyderco Tuff, which are surely tougher and give more surface to put pressure on but also (surely) don't slice as easily as Slysz Bowie. Slysz Bowie is a good mix for me as stand-alone urban EDC and ready for anything if paired with 6-7" bladed heavy fixed.

Yes! You don't often find a "large" folder with a finely ground cutting edge like this. I measure around .015" at the sholder, that is slicing fun.

As as said in a previous post, Slysz Bowie is the best machined allaround edc folder to date IMO.I am curious PiterM , if you had to choose one and only one allaround folder between Para2 and Slysz Bowie.....

Re: Slysz Bowie review - some of my thoughts and practical use
As amazing as the Bowie is in its quality and finish, it's blade shape just doesn't compare in overall usefulness to the pm2 for me. Its a **** fine knife though. I handled one for hours at the sfo. (ok, it probably wasn't hours but it was long enough that they were starting to wonder if I was going to give it back). I didn't walk out with it because its simply above my pay grade, but it was the most impressive knife I handled that day...and I handled LOTS of em. :rolleyes:elena86 wrote:As as said in a previous post, Slysz Bowie is the best machined allaround edc folder to date IMO.I am curious PiterM , if you had to choose one and only one allaround folder between Para2 and Slysz Bowie.....

Excellent pics and review Piter! Thank you!
Re: Slysz Bowie review - some of my thoughts and practical use
elena86, that would be tough call to choose just one. However I'd probably go with Slysz Bowie for just one reason, which is VERY important to me and probably less for many users from US, especially in TX, FL, CA, AZ and other states with hot weather. Here in central Europe we have 4-5 months of winter, sometimes very snowy and with -25 Deg C. So gloves are a MUST. I was able to disengage framelock with big cut-out like Slysz in gloves but it's not really possible with compression lock with very fine/small access. And as you can see in the pic in first post I was also using it in really snowy winter.

I hear you.I live in the same area but.....There is one major issue.Grip.Slysz Bowie doesn't offer too much grip, gloves or no gloves.During hot summers there is the sweat factor and during harsh winters, the wet factor. As much as I love my Bowies( yes, I own two of them, also) if I had to choose only one from a practical point of view, I'd had to go with my m390 Para2.But even so, I tresure my Slysz Bowie and it gives me more pride of ownership than any of my Para's.It's beautiful, elegant,it has tight tolerances, excelent design and F&F.Great job Spyderco.I am looking forward for the Slysz Spyderchef.PiterM wrote:elena86, that would be tough call to choose just one. And THX Much for such outstanding review. :)
I'm on the same club: for me the Spyderco Slysz Bowie belongs to the Highest Top 3 of the Very Best Folder Knives Ever Made.

I have to say it is one knife that really shines in so many places. It really could be the one and only folder I would ever need. Great review.

Still in my pocket when I'm in the forest, yeah... it's a keeper!

Did you reprofile yours? How do you maintain the edge ?PiterM wrote:Still in my pocket when I'm in the forest, yeah... it's a keeper!

Sweet pic? I've been carrying mine today as well.
What's in the Stanley flask? Not water I'm guessing

Not reprofiled, just sharpened on triangle sharpener.
And yeah, something more sophisticsted than just water inside

How would you compare it with a large Sebenza ?PiterM wrote:Not reprofiled, just sharpened on triangle sharpener.
