New 2015 Lightweight FRN Native 5 models

#1

Post by RadioactiveSpyder »

Looks like there's some new lightweight Native 5's on the horizon. Here's a list recently posted by Bento Box Shop on their Facebook page. Yay!

The following Spyderco knives are scheduled to be available this year but were not listed in the 2015 catalog:

• Spyderco Plain Edge CPM-S110V Dark Blue Native 5 Lightweight
• Spyderco Serrated Edge Black Native 5 Lightweight
• Spyderco Serrated Edge Black Blade Black Native 5 Lightweight
• Spyderco Plain Edge Pink Native 5 Lightweight

Many thanks to darr3n for posting this info first in the LW Manix black blade thread! Cheers, Radioactive :)

Paul,
Thank you for info.
Four new models, so there will be something for everyone. I certainly see one for me. I need to get pink just to support the right cause with good looking knife. :)

Thanks R/S for the heads up!

I'm looking forward to the s110v version although I'm hoping it won't be stonewashed. I already have some visible scratches on my g10 Native. I'm already thinking about a blade swap :D

I presume these would all be regular production models.

I would love any new lightweight FRN Native 5. My first Spydie was a Native in 2000, I've never really liked hollow grinds and I love FRN so I've skipped all the flat ground Native's so far but handled the new one a few weeks ago and I think I'm ready to start regularly edc-ing a Native again after all these years! :)

In the SHOT Show video from January Eric G. said soon, so I'd have to say before summer.

Is there any way to get a closer ETA on when these particular ones, especially the Dark Blue FRN Lightweight, will be available?

I'm all in for these, at least one of each....would have liked to see a black blade in G10...we'll have to see, pinned,or screwed....maybe a little blade swapping is in order.

What do you find in the G10 handle that is different from the FRN, that you like best about the G10 over the FRN?

I wish on the lightweight they'd have kept the same hole pattern as the G10 so I could swap out the shiny shiny clip with a black one. I ordered a couple extras from SFO so I'll send them for cerakoting. Those shiny clips just bug me for some reason. But as far as comparison, size is equal to the G10, lighter in weight of course. No liner. But it's solid with no flex that I noticed. I would have liked a liner but that would have added some weight. The FRN pattern is quite grippy. I think it's grippier than the G10 actually. The G10 on mine is more smooth but still has a bit a tacky to it. When I first got the LW, it felt more slippery to open till I got used to the slightly different feel in my hand. Locks up solid with a nice click. I think it's a bargain for a decent blade that'll be able to work without fear of messing up a much more expensive model.

As an aside and off topic, I did notice on the lightweight I just got that it has the sharper edge to the thumb hole as compared to the G10 forum model. From what I've seen here and on BF, that's new new norm on the new productions? I took a small jewelers file and took down that sharp edge a little. I found it a little uncomfortable on my thumb. But then again, I'm a delicate flower. Lol.

I like the smoother scales, and even though it's probably only an ounce, I like the little bit more weight they carry.
