It popped up on Howes site a couple days ago. It was mentioned in that releases thread. I'm pretty sure I'll pick this one up. It just depends on when my local shop gets one in stock.
Most recently acquired: Military 2, Paramilitary 2 Tanto x2, YoJUMBO, Swayback, Siren, DLC Yojimbo 2, Native Chief, Shaman S90V, Para 3 LW, Ikuchi, UKPK, Smock, SUBVERT, Amalgam, Para 3 CTS-XHP, Kapara, Paramilitary 2 M390
Grail Paramilitary 2 M390 X 2! ACHIEVED!!

Yes, they have been released. I noticed they were available at the SFO last week when I was ordering some USN hawkbill Ladybugs.

What makes it lightweight? Weight and dimensions almost identical to the old one, just different materials. I'm not complaining about the knife, just wondering why it's called lightweight..,

Come on man, the FRN version is a whole gram lighter than the former G10 version, that's a difference you can really feel! ;)

I'm guessing the "lightweight" branding is just keeping with the naming scheme of moving from G10 with SS liners to FRN with more minimal SS "liners" à la the Native and Manix lightweights.

The G-10 Urban is actually linerless. But it does have a full length, steel lockbar/backspacer.

I believe this version also has a full length backspacer like the Pingo?
I may have to buy one to swap the blade with my G10 version.
I knackered the edge and tip of that learning how to sharpen...

Hmm. That's interesting. I wonder if a blade swap is possible. I wouldn't mind swapping out my wharncliffe blade with this new one.

They may not do it universally, but Spyderco often uses "lightweight" in the name of the FRN version of a model that is (or has been) available with other handle materials.

I thought more like the Squeak.... If that Urban comes with a Wharncliffe or a sheepsfoot blade I'll be all over it. :)

Sal confirmed late last year that the construction of the new Urban lightweight will be similar to the Pingo and the Squeak. Linerless FRN with full length backspring and hidden steel pin anchoring the backspring in the tail of the knife. I'm thinking that they probably use the same size and type of bolts and screws - which will make modding easy...

I've purchased a couple already - and would welcome a wharncliffe blade!
