Re: Spyderco Trivia Game
I know it's not my turn, but I hope you won't mind if I jump in with another one:
Which early model was intentionally "knocked-off" to prevent others from copying Spyderco's designs?

Re: Spyderco Trivia Game
No worries! I'll add a second question that is more of a nature question than a Spyderco question.
Many of us have quite a few "Spyders". A group of geese is a gaggle, a group of crows is a murder and a group of dolphins is called a pod.
What is a group of "Spyders" called? There are two common answers. :)

Enigma has it right. A group of Spyders is called a cluster or a clutter. :)
I'm still trying to think of Spydernut's answer.

Re: Spyderco Trivia Game
Yes sir, that is correct. :D Spyderco initially designed the Standard (a.k.a Economy) as a less expensive knock-off to their regular line to help prevent others from mimicking their designs.Qcrazy wrote:Let's take a wild guess. The C05 Economy/Standard?

Goes to show, it's better to be lucky than good with that answer.

I really like this thread. It is very informative and also cool to learn more about Spyderco and it's history. Thanx for starting this, GS!

Re: Spyderco Trivia Game
OK, hold on, I'm not entirely sure that's the right answer (not that mine is likely right either BTW). My searching into this says that Spyderco first used CPM 440V in a 1994 production folder, yet Spydiewiki shows the 440V Military dates beginning in 1996. There's a 2 year gap there. I'd love for someone to give a definitive reference for this...

Re: Spyderco Trivia Game
http://spydercosource.com/category/steel-cpm-440v/ the knives that used 440V were the native C41,C50, C55,c63, C68, C69, and C78.
Spyder wiki "In 1994, Spyderco was the first company to use powder metallurgy in a production knife (in the form of Crucible's S60V tool steel)"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spyderco
so not sure on what the first to use 440v was but all the knives listed on spydercosource came after 1994.
