Quick questions re: the Endura 3

#1

Post by CaptainTim »

I apologize for what could be viewed by many of you as basic knowledge, but I can't find this info elsewhere: 1) Was the Endura 3 ever made in a steel other than ATS-55? 2) Was it ever made in an ffg grind, or in just the saber grind (re: the plain edge)? Thanks! (I own several Endura 4s, but recently discovered that I really like the blade profile and size of the Endura 3.)

Also made in VG 10. I believe saber grind was it for the gen 3.

I'll second rycen, those are the only two steels I've seen them in. I've got the combo edge vg-10 version but I believe they were available in all three edge configurations.

The Endura 3 was my first Spyderco some 12 years ago. Mine is VG-10 saber ground fully serrated.

Thanks for the replies. The only Endura 3s I've seen for sale lately have all been in ATS-55, and none in ffg, so it got me to wondering. I knew I could find the answer here.

My first EIII was ATS-55, and if I recall (because I no longer have it), it was hollow ground.
My everyday beater EIII is VG-10 and sabre.
This makes sense, because I have a Delica pre DBd, ATS-55 and it is clearly hollow ground.

Duplicate post.
Just checked my e3 se pre DBd and its really hard to tell if its hollow ground. But my Delica ce sure looks hollow ground.
Who knows.
I like the E3 in VG-10. They are nice.
Edit. Just used a straight edge in good light, and there is a difference in my E3 SE ATS-55 pre DBd, and VG-10 E3. There is clear hollow grinding in the ATS-55 Pre DBd model. But its not significant. No light shone through on the later VG-10.
Also, if you snag an ATS-55 model, care for your blade...I've had some corrosion issues with mine. None with VG-10.

If you love Endura IIIs, Pacific Salts use the same handle
