Starling 2 -- blade steel?

#1

Post by Ecchi-Spud »

Just received the mid-year Product Guide, and one of the new items listed (in fact, the very last one in the guide) is the byrd Starling 2 -- looks to be very similar to the Finch 2 (another knife I've been tempted by . . . but that's a story for elsewhere). However, I'm confused over exactly what the blade steel is on the Starling 2. The description and specifications on the product guide indicate it's 8Cr13MoV. However, if you look at the images of the knife itself, it says CTS-BD1.

Just trying to clear up any confusion.

It's possible it will be bd1 if it's the same maker as the crow/raven. Either way, I need one. I'm surprised it is happening this quick, i just brought up the idea in November.

What is the difference between the Finch 2 and the Starling 2?

The G-10 Starling should be BD1. The finch and Starling are two designs about the same size. The Finch has a finger choil and the Starling does not.

The Starling is a very nice piece and has not really had a change to show itself. It's still pretty new since the upgrades.
