Working Class Dogs

I see a trend that Spyderco is making more knives that fit my budget without sacrificing functionality. My Manix LW gets the most pocket time of any and the price is more than reasonable for what I got. I always wanted a Street Beat, but couldn't take the plunge, while the Lightweight is a knife I c...

Re: Massdrop appears to be conforming to MAP

I have enough knives to serve me for the rest of my life. The additional $5-$10 that I pay under the MAP rubs me the wrong way, but it's not the reason that I buy no more than one new knife a year. Still, even at the current prices, I think Spyderco offers some of the best values, so it doesn't serv...

Re: Street Beat-Lightweight or not?

Thank you for the comparison photos, Reject. I've considered picking up a lightweight and the pictures help with the decision. Can you please post pictures comparing the sheaths.

Kitchen Knives

I just received two Spyderco kitchen utility knives in SE that I ordered as Christmas gifts, intended for people who have only horribly blunt knives in their kitchen, as many people do. Now I have to question my judgment when I see how sharp the Spyderco kitchen knives are. I think that these two pe...

Re: The Stainless Dilemma

I use all my knives and sometimes that means they ride in sweaty pockets at work. I don't mind sharpening knives, so the latest wonder-steel doesn't do much for me, but a blade that has to be coddled to keep from rusting is not practical for my use. To me, lovingly oiling a knife blade to prevent ru...

I give this design my seal of approval. Spyderco may begin production straight away and send me two for evaluatation.

Re: Bradley folder 2

For once I'm listening to reason, that voice in my head that says, "How many more knives do you need?" The GB2 appeals to me, but only if I overlook some features that don't suit me. While the rest of you enjoy your new knife, I will wait. I like to think that I've become more mature, but ...

Re: Thanks for recommending C101PDBL2 Manix.

A Swiss army knife with a saw would save your folder from batoning while being lightweight and versatile. I like to have duplicates of important items, especially knives and means of starting a fire.

Re: Thanks for recommending C101PDBL2 Manix.

The low-ride clip will fit, but it will rest on the textured part of the handle and could accelerate wear on your trouser pocket.

Sorry, but I can't help you. I find the Yo 2 interesting, but I wouldn't buy one, so I can't sell you on it either. Not to worry, you'll get plenty of encouragement.

Re: I love lock back knives!

I enjoy the simplicity of the lock back mechanism, no tiny springs or parts. Also the security of a positive bias to closure and very little possibility of unintentionally disengaging the lock. I much prefer back locks to liner locks, which are so common in many other brands.

Re: Are Spyderco prices getting out of your reach?

The prices of the Spydercos that I want are not out of reach, because I don't have much interest in the high-zoot knives that I would never take to work. I would have never bought a Street Beat until they came out with the lightweight version that I could afford and feel good about using. Spyderco m...

Re: The MAP announcement

The MAP will increase the prices for the knives that I would buy by about $5 to $10. I've been selling knives much more than buying, but this small increase in price won't effect the used market. Unlike when Benchmade started enforcing their MAP and I sold all but one. I had my eye on a couple of Sp...

Re: I only have a few knives, but I'm happy. Am I crazy?

I thinned my knife herd down to a few old favorites that I carry and use plus two oldies that I keep just to admire. Otherwise, when I rotate my knife-of-the-day, it's like getting reacquainted with an old friend. Like you, I don't see any knives that grab my attention more than what I already have....

Re: Tatanka vs Voyager lock strength test By Cold Steel

I have a question regarding lock strength: How much dynamic load would be applied to the lock of a knife during a thrust? How would that compare to the static loads applied during tests? When I see a test of more weight than I think I could hold in one hand, I assume that I would not be able to exer...

Re: Delica saber thick but FFG

For my 2 cents, I would keep the FFG and make the sabre grind higher and thinner. I like the FFG, but I would also like something a just little more robust.
