How do you sharpen a big one?

I've got a machette that needs sharpening. How do you sharpen it? It's too big for my <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> 204. Do I put it on a grinding wheel like my mower blades? File? Stone? Thanks, Gary "Beware of the Ides of March!""

I agree about the safety advantages of tip down being over-rated! I do not know of anyone who has ever been bitten by a 'not closed' tip up knife. If that were to happen it must be on one of those $4.99 junk knives that 'don't' close. Don't know of a good knife that accidently opens... <img src=&quo...

I use Tuf-Stuff by Sentry Products. It is non-toxic. If I were to use a food-type oil I would use food grade mineral oil. You typically find it in kitchen stores for maintaining wooden cutting boards or wooden salad bowls. Along with being non-toxic, it is very pure and not very sticky. I've used it...

I like Canned Air, Tuf-Glide and Tuf-Cloth...
never tried Ballistol or Militec...
will not use White Lightning (nothing but a parafin wax)... and never use WD-40 (it is a solvent not a lubricant).

PS:... Although having the snap on the other end would mean you need to turn the knife around in your hand after un-snapping-it, I would sacrafice that maneuver for having the full blade exposed for use.
