I really like the Super Blue. I liked it so much I decided to get a second one. It is fun to sharpen because it takes a phenomenal edge very easily. It also has very decent edge retention. I haven't found the non stainless aspect to be a problem. It seems quite easy to maintain and the way it patina...

The Spyderco diamond rods for the Sharpmaker are pretty aggressive, imo. I've used them to set the bevels on several Spyderco's and they make the job go fairly fast, especially if you work one side at a time and get into doing repetitive up/down strokes on the rod. With a little practice just workin...

Also, for many people, the Sharpmaker takes some practice to get good with it, unless you are already somewhat skilled at freehand sharpening. There are some subtleties involved in using it. In addition to videos, there also are a lot of Sharpmaker threads on this forum that have useful tips that ar...

The diamond rods "break in" (literally) during the first several uses and become somewhat less abrasive than they were at first when brand new and unused but that's the way they are supposed to be. After break in they should still be grinding metal fairly aggressively and much faster than ...

I feel I've done my part cause I already got two of the M390 Mules. Love that steel. Thought they would be sold out before now for sure. I guess a lot of people don't really know how great M390 is. Looking forward to getting the M390 Para 2 next year.

I also prefer freehand for speed on bigger knives like kitchen knives, ability to use a greater variety of stones/grits, and the more refined and polished scratch pattern they can provide, however, I also like the precision I can more easily achieve with the Sharpmaker, especially for folders. So I ...

Imo, the super blue was a great choice for a carbon folder blade because it is more wear resistant as well as slightly less prone to rusting than the other various Blues and Whites, due to the added chrome and I think V, iirc, and it still takes a fabulous edge. Even though it is a little more resis...

Are you sure it isn't the aogami white steel? I'm pretty sure. I don't think there is an "aogami" white steel. I believe in the context of knife steels, "Ao" means blue and "Shiro" means white in Japanese. So "aogami" or "ao-ko" is blue steel and &q...

You can get some at the following site: http://www.chefknivestogo.com/hiromotoknives.html The prices are pretty reasonable considering the quality, imo. These knives are generally considered to be very good for the money although among J. kitchen knives afi's, they are considered to be somewhat &quo...

With its rock solid and super strong lockup and long wearing steel, it's the 20CP Para 2 for me, with my M390 mule (fixed blade) close behind. Too soon to tell how my Super Blue Caly 3.5 rates because I haven't yet had it for very long, although I can say it takes the best, i.e., sharpest, edge of a...

Imo the M390 is superior even to S90V/20CP mainly because I find it takes a superior edge that seems (in my hands at least) to get sharper and to cut things better. The only steel I've used that takes a better edge, imo, is Super Blue which is a high quality carbon (non stainless) steel. For a stain...

I have been totally satisfied with the ~$7 Home Depot "Husky" torx (and also the companion flat/phillips) set. The torx set has every torx size I've needed for my various Spydercos and is very compact with all the unused heads fitting in the small driver/handle. Mine has also lasted severa...

Aside from everything else, I find opening and closing the Para 2 one handed with its compression lock super fast and easy and a heck of a lot of fun! It's almost addictive. The fact that its lock up is so solid it's almost like a fixed blade is also pretty cool.

Mongatu....What specifically do you like better about the M390 over the 20CP?....ease of sharpening?, edge retention?... They are both excellent steels. Ease of sharpening is about the same, imo, at least in terms of how long it takes or how hard it is to grind. I haven't used M390 enough to be abl...
