Re: Are the Sharpmaker UF stones worth it?
I only checked cutlery shoppe but the 2" wide fine stone is $42 and the UF is $54 for a $12 difference. Just wondering where the $30 amount is coming from. I think the 3" wide UF may be about $30 more than the 2" wide UF. If that is the price difference anyone is looking at I'd still ...

Re: Roughing up G10
I sent some smooth scales to get sand blasted once. That worked really well giving it a good grip.

Re: Are the Sharpmaker UF stones worth it?
I'm not the best to help with this decision. When I make an investment on something that I plan on using for many many years, I usually buy as much for it as I can so I get the most out of it. When you start spending more money on sharpening gear than you do on knives, then you know you're in deep ...

Re: Gripping a choiled knife?
I never hold a choiled knife in the rear position. My index finger is always in the choil unless as someone else mentioned my index finger is on the spine, near the tip for very controlled cutting. The only reason I MIGHT hold the handle farther back is if I'm doing some light chopping, which I almo...

Re: Are the Sharpmaker UF stones worth it?
I don't have a sharpmaker but I do have the fine and UF bench stones. Both of these stones are great IMO. Personally, I don't think the UF stone is needed unless you want a smoother, less toothy edge. I use my UF stone as the last stone before stropping my straight razors. You want a straight razor ...

Re: which spydeco for a non spyderco person?
As mentioned above people who haven't used a Spyderco can be put off by the hump. But I've seen many times that once someone tries a Spyderco knife they get hooked. Just like some of the "stranger" looking Spyderco's have put me off. But I've gotten them and suddenly I "get it". ...

Re: Show your mods!
I can't seem to get my hands on a Brad Southard custom, so I decided to make my own. Damascus bolsters, gray/black G-10, Damascus overtravel stop, and deep etched Damascus pocket clip. This was my first time working with Damascus and I'm moderately pleased with how it turned out. https://lh3.google...

Re: Frankenspyder Lets see some Freaks
Here's a couple of mine. Manbug. This started as the G-10/SS bolster model with VG-10 blade. I've made several sets of scales for this. I think the red bone is my favorite. But I made a set out of black G-10 that really looked good with the SS bolsters. But what makes it a freak is I got the SB spri...

Looks great. It looks like it screams "comfortable grip". Nice job. Isn't that knife pinned? Did you do this without disassembling it?

Re: Show your Mule
I love the one I have now with the exception of the "slippery when wet" issue with the handle. I also have considered re-sanding the handle to remove the polyurethane and starting over with the finish. We'll see. Jack Nice looking job. If you do decide to re-sand and start over, it might ...

Re: Show your Mule
Really some beautiful knives shown in this thread. My congratulations to everyone. I put a handle on a team 20 (CTS B70P) recently. The front of the handle is leopardwood and the rear is curly maple (red leaf). http://i800.photobucket.com/albums/yy288/jackknifeh/Spyderco%20Mule%2020%20CTS%20B70P/Mul...

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule
I finally got a kydex sheath made that I'm about as happy with as I'll get anytime soon. Still some problems with my eyelet setting but other than that I like this neck sheath. http://i800.photobucket.com/albums/yy288/jackknifeh/Spyderco%20Mule%2020%20CTS%20B70P/Mule%20sheath%20front%202_zpsey6xsefr...

Re: Mule Team 20 (MT20) Review from Kevin Estela
Great review. I got one of these and it was my first mule. I consider myself lucky to have picked this blade steel. I had no idea what to expect. It was just time for me to get a Mule and this is the one that was available. I will never put mine to the test like Kevin did. What I have done with it t...

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule
Yesterday I built a small gate with a 2x4 frame. I wanted to remove half the thickness from the side of each board end so the thickness of the gate would be 1.5" even where the boards attach. I didn't want to use 45 degree cuts at the corners. To do this I use a circular saw and set the depth t...

Re: Spyderwrench owners club
The mention of the "GOLDEN ERA" got me wondering where these were made. Golden, CO maybe??? I checked and they were made in Taiwan. The byrdrench was made in China. Now you can answer these questions the next time you are on Jeopardy. :)

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule
The mules are meant to be ground on and beat up if you ask me ;) ABSOLUTELY! This knife just screams USE ME! ABUSE ME!!! :) It's a comfortable knife to hold. Just the right size IMO for a great work knife. I used polyurethane on the handle because I figured what is used on hard wood floors should b...

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule
At first I thought the thumb ramp was a little uncomfortable when putting the pad of my thumb on it. When I started using it I found out I did think it was a little to pointy. Here is it originally. Some of my pictures from the phone camera get turned sideways by the time I get them in the forum. It...

Re: special 2015 forum knife
Congrats on a great knife and gift. I have the ti handle one and agree. The ergonomics do melt in your hand. It's like you make a fist then someone forms the handle to your grip. I like the color too I think. It's hard to tell exactly what color it is because of the light difference in your pics. Ho...

Re: stainless backspacer for Stretch
I was about to attempt putting the blade and washers in last when I realized the FRN pin was ruined beyond use. Those little washers must be a nightmare to get lined up right, even the large diameter ones BM uses are hard enough to line up. I'm curious now what your SB CF stretch looks like, mind p...

Re: stainless backspacer for Stretch
I don't dare take apart a FRN knife now unless I plan on installing a different spacer. The FRN spacer isn't nearly tough enough to handle the reassembly pressure without using a jig of some sort it seems. I have the SB stretch and know exactly the problems you had. The only way I found to halfway ...
