Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Older model in the shed hacking up some kindling. Hossom Woodlander. Great knife. AEFC04FD-3B2B-48FF-9023-80655A6D5E19.jpeg I had the largest version at one point. Would love seeing a sprint of the series in a different steel. I would love to see more big Spyderco fixed blades in 4V or MagnaCut. Ho...

Re: Anyone use a safety razor?

Merkur. Period. Good quality, good price, and enough choice to suit your style. Long handle, short handle, closed comb, open comb, etc... check them out. As for blades, I always recommend Astra. There are a million choices though. Have fun.

If I need to chop or dig the old Ontario Rat 7 comes out:

Well I have a Murker safety razor, Astra Blades, Taylor Soap, Badger brush and shaving bowl in bound. Actually not to bad of a buy in. Going to see how this works on the peach fuzz the electric razor misses.

Re: Shaving Razors recommendations?

Yeah I just don’t like the feathers. Astras really work for me. I can grow a beard in 1 day. Merkur makes long and short handles too. For a starter, you can’t go wrong. Now maybe I have to get a pack of feathers and give them another go! Just avoid Derby blades. I would not even scrape paint off win...

Re: Shaving Razors recommendations?

Get a Merkur safety razor and a sampler pack of razor blades. Any good online “men’s” shop will have them. Razor should be 40 to 100 bucks (German made) and the blades are dirt cheap. I use Astra blades and pay something like $20 for a hundred pack. Even if you change blade every 3-4 days, that’s a ...

Re: Stropping: Your Favorite Hardware & Supplies?

I don’t mind new steels but the “antiquated” stuff works for me  and O1 is a favourite. If it is super hard stuff I don’t strop unless it’s to clean off crud. For those ceramic stones (8000) are what I finish with. Unless I leave a super toothy edge for outside, hard workers. Few passes on a L...

Re: Stropping: Your Favorite Hardware & Supplies?

Lee Valley still stocks them. Homemade is always my go to. With a softer steel, or to clean crud from any steel, you can’t beat a strop. For something like O1 you can pop a mirror edge pretty quickly.

Re: Stropping: Your Favorite Hardware & Supplies?

Wait for it. Super high tech. Leather (old belt) and leather strip for large serrations (same belt) glued on piece of wood. I may test sharpness here and there, but the “face” at the end helps me hold it. I hold in left hand and lean it on forearm. Loaded with rouge. 6D3B8F2F-76A1-4E4B-8CB4-B2618BF1...

Seemed to be some interest in the ESEE Izula. Not one I carry too often, but seeing the buzz, I carried it and remembered why I got it. Beat it all you want, it'll come back for more, and you can sharpen it super easy. Love the carbon steel. Tough and forgiving.
