Re: Building a Custom Knife for Sal: CPM S60V
It's going to be interesting to see how it holds up in use. As I recall, the initial run of 440V/S60V Military suffered a lot of chipping at a lower hardness than this.

I think that name went around about 34 minutes after Magnacut was announced. But nice try, and welcome aboard!

Yep, it appears to have the integral spring, a feature that went by the wayside pretty quickly. Nice find.
Edit to add: Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people here. I happen to have one of those as well.

I'll take your word for it. I've never watched a YouTube knife review. I prefer to form my own opinions

Re: VG10 HRC
I had a girlfriend tell me "It's not fair that your hands can be that soft. I know what you do for a living." And yes, if I pick up a knife or other tool and immediately feel sharp spots digging into my hands, I have enough experience to know what those spots are going to do when I start u...

Re: What year did they start putting bug on blade?
https://i.imgur.com/RAfhAG9.jpeg The top knife in the pic is the one that popped up on social media and sparked this question. Yeah that is the one. Notice bug on blade and engraving is perpendicular to all the others. The engraving location really is odd. Spydernuts aren't fond of words down the m...

Re: What year did they start putting bug on blade?
That would put it as possible with those dates. Never seen a Lil Temp with the bug before. What steel does your L'il Temp have? They used 440V/S60V for most of the production. I think the bug went on when they changed to S30V. It could have just been mine but my old s30v lil temp 1 had no spyder As...

Re: What year did they start putting bug on blade?
I don't know for certain. The Boye dent appeared around 2001, and all the newer models in the 2006 catalog had the bug logos on the blades, although the older stock pictures do not. My C95 Manix doesn't have one but my C101 83mm Manix does. I would guess around 2004 for a start date on the rolling c...

Re: Boating and lanyards
How about attaching it to a belt loop with paracord? Then if you drop it, or if it unintentionally becomes unclipped and slips out of the pocket, it's still attached to your person. Unless that's considered a potential hazard. The paracord doesn't need to be very long. Jim That’s a good idea too. T...

That was just an old picture of my Calypso family. If you want something that spans their history, the stainless Police Model is as close as it gets.

Re: Is there a quintessential Spyderco?
By design, these knives encapsulate the spyderco design philosophy the most. Not going by my opinion or preference, but by actually observing and taking their in house design history into account. Also another reason I forgot to add previously, made in Japan, historically I would say spyderco has p...

Re: A new spin on "HIC dropping soon"
I don't see many mentions of diving from the contingent that wants everything rustproof. Frankly, none of the rustproof steels have impressed me with their edge holding, but I live a long way from an ocean, so corrosion is way down the priority list for me. HIC may not sharpen easily, but it does ho...

Re: A new spin on "HIC dropping soon"
Just out of curiousity, did it rust as well? Just asking, because there seems to be a large (or at least vocal) contingent around here that value rust resistence above all else, including the toughness to withstand a 3' drop onto concrete. I was able to achieve a useable edge on one with nothing mor...

I have been cutting him slack, mostly because I figured it was an April Fool's Day prank. Yes, we all have to start somewhere, but if he truly wants to learn, I suggest he start by learning to communicate in a less belligerent manner.

Welcome to the forum. The value will depend on exactly what you have. If it is the "Bug" set (Bug, Honeybee and Grasshopper in one box) it might be worth a few dollars, but probably not much, especially with the Grasshopper missing.
