Starling 2 -- blade steel?
Just received the mid-year Product Guide, and one of the new items listed (in fact, the very last one in the guide) is the byrd Starling 2 -- looks to be very similar to the Finch 2 (another knife I've been tempted by . . . but that's a story for elsewhere). However, I'm confused over exactly what t...

Re: Spyderco Wallet Knife and Wallet Carry?
A couple months ago, I (FINALLY) replaced my ancient wallet (held together by bare threads, worn cowhide, and the Whim of the Almighty) with a Maxpedition CMC, which has two zippered pockets -- one for coins, the other for memory cards and USB drives. The coin pocket gets used for its intended purpo...

Re: Is there a BYRD in your pocket??
At the moment, the only byrd blade I have is a Cara Cara 2 G-10. It's pretty much at the upper limit of what I can EDC, but it is in my rotation (other than multi-tools, the other blades currently in rotation are two smaller Spydies), and the CC2 is in my pocket as I type.

Re: Reccomend a Knife
Just out of curiosity, since you mentioned the Chicago, then how about the Cat? Slightly larger than the Chicago (blade is just under 2.5 inches), with a larger handle as well, but otherwise very much the same knife. The Squeak is also a good selection (even though it's not a locking blade, it's got...

Re: New Cara Cara 2 G10
For a while I was trying to decide between the Tenacious and this; I eventually picked the Cara Cara 2 G-10 (and technically I still haven't ruled out the Tenacious for a future purchase). FINALLY got it today, and I have to say that I am REALLY IMPRESSED!! Definitely large (I choke up at the finger...

Re: Taking off the burr
I think it would work the other way round. I'm just basing that on what you'd see if you looked straight at the sharpener with your eyes level with it. In it's normal position you'd see the 20 degree per side forming a truncated V. Tilt the base towards or away from you, and the apparent height wou...

Re: Taking off the burr
Anyway, I'm sure we are eager to see what you come up with if you design something yourself. What he proposed is much simpler, just rotate the Sharpmaker (not tilt it) to adjust the angle. Precisely. Just simply turning the sharpener to try to get a more acute angle (which SOUNDS like it might be d...

Re: Taking off the burr
ON A SIDE NOTE: This regards guided sharpeners, like the Sharpmaker, where you have the stones/sticks set at preset angles on a base and you gently run the knife edge across the sticks going downward. The issue that I have is that the preset angles typically aren't the ones needed to work the edge a...

Re: New To Forum and Spyderco
Another n00b here (to both the Forum AND to Spyderco knives) . . . Already though, I recognize some familar names from the BladeForum dot com Boards! Careful, Spydies are like Lay's, you can't have just one. ;) I too can concur; even before my first Spyderco -- a Cat -- arrived at my doorstep, I had...
