Re: Public Domain Triad Lock Alternative
More surface area for the blade to contact the stop pin could be an improvement as well, no? Similar to how the Triad lock improves durability on the back/mid lock that it borrows from.

Public Domain Triad Lock Alternative
https://youtu.be/-9d0l_XrLH8?t=486 This could be an interesting development. From a youtube video posted by Joerg Sprave a German engineer. Hopefully this thread doesn't devolve into arguments about how strong a lock should be. Yes slipjoints are great as long as used safely. A high strength lock de...

Re: Sal, what are the chances for a AEB-L spydie ?
I wonder how thin you could go in a Para2 blade without sacrificing rigidity. A FFG Delica 4 is about 93 thousandths or 2.36mm. I think the answer to that would be a very aggressive hollow-grind. It wouldn't have the standard FFG characteristics but would be more rigid and you could keep the 3.5mm ...

Re: Sal, what are the chances for a AEB-L spydie ?
I'm not 100% sure what the issue is with production settings and AEB-L/low carbide steels. Is cryo not typically an option for production knives? yeah probably not much incentive to put extra effort into treating a steel that's widely considered cheap and undesirable. By and large high carbide and ...

Re: Sal, what are the chances for a AEB-L spydie ?
AEB-L is considered a stainless 52100. I believe SuperBlue is a higher carbide steel by comparison. Hopefully a positive reaction to these recent Military sprints will get more customers interested. Higher carbide than AEB-L but relatively close when compared to steels with lots of Vs in the name r...

Re: Sal, what are the chances for a AEB-L spydie ?
I would like to see a permanent inclusion to the PM2 line of a slicer grind which brings the blade thickness down from 3.5mm to 2-2.5mm and I think AEB-L would be a great choice. Yes please. That has been a dream of mine for some time. I love the standard Para2. S30V has a nice balance of propertie...

Re: Edge retention : 10V and 15n20 on used polypropylene and new hemp
I am no fan of BF or some of its older members and admin. I don't even go there anymore. I even once called Ankerson a troll. But the reason that I don't agree with cliff is that he does not post information just to be informative he constantly post things to stir up debate for his own amusement an...

Re: Edge retention : 10V and 15n20 on used polypropylene and new hemp
You want to get real? I can get very real if you really want. ;) I don't think the Spyderco crew would like that too much if I did that though. I really don't think you want to go there. The best thing to do is back off and let it alone. Talk is cheap. :) Be honest. If someone made constant and inc...

Re: Edge retention : 10V and 15n20 on used polypropylene and new hemp
Let's be real here. Cliff is a guy with a PhD who shares the results of experiments he does with knives (in the real world). He's more than happy to answer any questions people have about them, or anything knife related. That's a pretty valuable guy to have around if you like knives. In this thread ...

Re: Here we go again (Manix 2 vs Cold Steel)
I was impressed to see the Manix pass the spine whacks with no damage and then overstrikes period. I was hoping that they'd weight hang the other Manix that hadn't suffered any damage from the first test. Promotional or not Cold Steel is providing some interesting test footage that isn't being made ...

Re: How to find out the exact angle a knife was sharpened and/or is a copycat?
The last confirmed hand ground by Spyderco was done around 2012. If you look closely at the 2015 video Spyderco "Shop Tour" https://youtu.be/JlsoX_Hkd1c" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has published, there Glesser jr. proudly explains and showing of the sharpening...

You must be at least the second smartest hillbilly I know. Don't knock hillbillies, when the Zambies come they will be the only ones that survive. Moonshine is the cure? The critical part which most people don't do which gets them into trouble is to ask the question "could what I think be true...

..The metallurgy I just became interested in when someone asked me a question i didn't know the answer to..I have the background in physics to understand metallurgy on a basic level (that is the solid state part, it is on crystal structure, bonding and such). This is an interesting thread. I am new here and I have a newer perspective. Maybe. Anyway Cliff has a very strong personality. Like I said, I am a new comer. So I am not an expert on Cliff. I can say that his sharpening threads can be interesting but there is also a fatigue, I get from them. They ...

Re: A change in tone
Spyderco seems to have benefited from being open to new ideas and investing in technical research. It's one of the reasons that I respect Spyderco as a company and have purchased their products. Science works. Even being a relatively new forum member it's obvious who many of the posts here are point...

Re: Caly 3.5 discontinued?
It's always a bit sad to see such a great Spyderco design discontinued. Understandable though, and in a way it makes the knife more special.
I wonder if a Golden version with a compression lock and pillar construction would sell better amongst the more average knife buying public. A man can dream. :)
