Re: New Black Karahawk- Fit & Finish?

Dear Boar-Gen: One of the necessary compromises that comes with black coatings is that adjoining parts can't be finished together. In the case of the satin-finished Karahawk, the G-10 ring spacer is installed and THEN the back of the handle and interior of the ring are sanded so everything is perfe...

ahhh thanks a ton man, I really appreciate it! I didn't know that about the pin there... I will have to figure out how to do that. I have some 1/8" steel rod that I could probably cut to size and then peen maybe? I don't understand the mod either, it's just what the guy wants me to do lol. I ma...

Anyone know how thick the back-spacer is on the Dodo?

I am getting a Dodo in soon and will be replacing the spacer to make it look similar to the one in the photo below. Not sure how thick the G10 that I order needs to be... does anyone have the measurements or can someone measure w/ a caliper? Thanks http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ABrcMuL_a00/T1uuJ0oC0GI/A...

Oh duh I missed that part in your post. I see it now at the plunge line. Looks a little convex? Don't go splitting any logs with it ;) But then I wouldn't be living up to your moto David! "Use it like you hate it" ;) Yeah, it may be slightly convex but not much... it was freehand against ...

Maybe that pic is playing tricks with my eyes, but that blade looks like it was either thinned out a LOT behind the edge, or your angle is super duper high like 30dps, not 30 inclusive. either it's a funky pic or that bevel is somehow really really small for 15dps. This is my 15dps/30 inclusive, an...

I got 6 of these in between two customers... They all looked like they had a nice fit and finish. The only thing I did notice between them all was that 1. they didn't all center perfectly and 2. they had variable amounts of ease of opening/closing. The centering could be fixed easily if it could be ...

I don't have both... but I have had the para2 in cts 20cp and I have handled several manix's. I really like the ergos and blade on the para2, there are few that are even close IMO. The manix does not feel as good, but it likely will hold an edge better than the para2, depending on what you get. I ju...

Did anyone ever find out any more info on the micro-structure and HRC values of Spyderco's s110v? I ordered the manix in s110v and am curious about what it will be stable at and edge retention. I am thinking about regrinding it to .010" but am not sure if that would be wise or not.

Thanks! I love my manix xl, but the only thing I don't like is that the opening isn't that smooth... Its a little stiff even though I've had it for around a year now and keep it oiled. I will hopefully be taking it apart soon and cleaning it, re-lubing it, etc. Thanks for the article!

Thanks for the post cliff! I always learn a lot from you. So I have a few questions... Please forgive my lack of knowledge. How do you identify carbide in any given steel structure? In other words, what what are carbides and what are examples? Secondly, can you explain how one could tell what the gr...

Wow, so it looks like the paramilitary in s30v outperformed all the others? What do the numbers under 15%, 10%, and 5% mean? I know it's the length of material cut, but is it in feet or meters?

I have the 10 weight nanolube that I have been playing around with in my knives... After a couple of months I can say that there is no noticeable difference between this lube and other light weight oils imho.

Thanks cliff, that helps a bunch. I most certainly see and understand what you are talking about with the blade profile having a huge impact on the results. So how do you thin the entire face of the blade down (maybe this is getting off topic :-) I guess a belt sander.... I would just imagine that i...

I like serrated knives but are the spydie serrated edges only on the one side of the blade? It seems as if most manufacturers put it on the side that would be best for left handed users and not optimized for right handed users....

I don't know... But I did have a couple Persians that would blunt when you closed them 10-20 times... Spyderco was great and replaced it though. Said they would check into it in other persians.
