Re: Lil Lionspy thoughts
The Lil' LionSpy is a nice design by itself, but I prefer the original LionSteel SR-2 which is strangely enough much less expensive here in Europe even in the variant with Devin Thomas Damascus. http://araneomorphae.de/images/forumpic/LionSteel_SR2-7.jpg http://araneomorphae.de/images/forumpic/LionS...

Re: EDC Battle: Delica vs. Endura vs. Stretch
Also voted for the Stretch, I think it's by far the best design of all three. Guess some comparison pics might be helpful. http://araneomorphae.de/images/forumpic/Stretch-Vergleich-1.jpg http://araneomorphae.de/images/forumpic/Stretch-Vergleich-2.jpg http://araneomorphae.de/images/forumpic/Stretch-V...

Re: Vote for your 2015 Spyderco knife of the year
If I left any knives out please let me know and I'll add it to the list I think you forgot about the C177 Roc and this would be my Spyderco of the year, most probably together with the Schempp Bowie. Nothing too fancy, though. Guess I'm getting old, the number of new models that appeal to me decrea...

Re: Amsterdam Meetsters
Streaming video would allow the ninety-some percent of Spyderco forumites who can't attend in person to at least see some of the goodies. Might be too late to implement it for '16, but still something to consider for future years. The A'dam meet was always a pleasure for me, but I doubt that any st...

Re: Is the Paramilitary 2's stop pin made from a different steel?
AFAIR the common material for the stop pin within the knife industry is hardened Grade 416 steel which sacrifices some corrosion resistance to a better machinability compared to other steels. It's a martensitic steel which is pretty strong and tough, the European norms would be 1.4005 and X12CrS13. ...

Re: Help with a complete list of Golden-made Spyders?
AFAIR Spyderco took over the production of the C15 in 1993.GoldenSpydie wrote:Interesting trivia on the C15 as well. Was the G10 version made in Golden?
So, I guess all G-10 C15s are Golden-made and perhaps some of the last run of the Aluminum C15s.

Re: Help with a complete list of Golden-made Spyders?
Awesome list, thx.
I wouldn't consider the C15 as a "true" Golden-made Spyderco, most if not all of the Aluminium variants were made in Clackamas, Oregon.
And I'd like to add the C96GP Spyker to your list.

Re: Calling all Urban owners, opinions needed.
I own all variants of the Urban. Although they share the same design the G-10 and the FRN variant of the Urban are technically somewhat different. The spring of the G-10s is much weaker, too weak for my taste. The spring of the FRN variant is pretty strong, almost like a Laguiole. Steelwise they are...

Re: My first Benchmade...
Most of the guys here won't remember the 90s when Benchmade and Spyderco were still on friendly terms. Benchmade made the first runs of the C15 and one of their ultimate classics is the BM800 A.F.C.K. which they started manufacturing in 1998. AFAIR the design of the A.F.C.K. was first offered by Chr...

Re: Got my 1st Spyderco, unhappy with the finishing?
This other is an 'unboxing' video so there can't be any post work https://youtu.be/x3EoOwkO1tg At ~3:40 it shows the edges well and they are much smoother than mine (which is a March 2015 built so quite recent). Though the guy states that he bought the knife as new I honestly doubt that this is rea...

Re: Got my 1st Spyderco, unhappy with the finishing?
Which actually brings me to my secondary question i.e. why my blade lamination line is 2mm from the cutting edge on one side and 4mm from the cutting edge on the other? This is also pretty normal, during the grinding of the blade in the factory the smallest inevitable deviation can lead to an offse...

Re: Got my 1st Spyderco, unhappy with the finishing?
I am happy with the knife now -- this post is not to complain, just wondering why some knives don't come finished. Sorry that you were not happy with the Caly 3.5 at first glance. It probably did not become clear on my first post but these crisp edges are completely intentionally and are not an ind...

Re: Got my 1st Spyderco, unhappy with the finishing?
First of all: welcome to the forums! it makes me wonder about Spyderco quality control. It is a common misconception that this is due to lack of quality control especially for the Moki-made Spydercos. Sal sees sharp edges of the handle material and crisp liners as a sign of good craftmanship. It is ...

Re: Help me choose a spydie-gift
How is the grip, by the way ? The grip is comparable to the Vallotton, the G-10 is polished. So, I would say that the handle material's grip is almost non existent. Another proposal, but only to find on the secondary market would be the original Starmate. Sorry, but none of mine is for sale. ;) htt...

Re: Help me choose a spydie-gift
I'd vote for a completely different knife. The Hungarian Folder is pretty enough for carrying it in the city, the linerlock is strong enough for outdoor use and it is one of the very rare opportunities to buy a higher-end Spydie for a reasonable price in Europe: http://www.coutellerie-tourangelle.co...

Re: Are Spyderco prices getting out of your reach?
You do raise a good point. Unfortunately our distributors in Europe are independent businesses and we cannot dictate to them on how to run their businesses. We always encourage lower prices because higher prices reduces volume and doesn't serve us or the customers. Perhaps you should mention your t...

Re: Are Spyderco prices getting out of your reach?
Pricing is always an interesting discussion. Our margins have not increased in decades, In fact some have been reduced to the point of question. When our costs go up, for whatever reason, our prices have to go up. We always do our best to try to keep them as fair as possible. sal Hi Sal, I think yo...

Re: Are Spyderco prices getting out of your reach?
I'm just curious, have you had any luck buying from USA retailers? Of course I can do this, this is what I did in the past often enough. Meanwhile however, I expect fair European prices. I guess that Spyderco will be threatend of extinction from the European market much like Benchmade experienced i...
