I'll go with Snoo and say that the steel must be Superblue.... ;) OK, I'll play. A short Stretch run. We've discussed: Straight spine / sharp tip FRN Bolstered version G-10 Steel would have to come from Japan. (VG-10, ZDP, Super Blue, Takefu Damascus, Cobalt special, ?) Can we come up with one mode...

Let us know what your experiences will be. I'm always interested in any kind of data. :D So I have very nontechnical data but you said any kind so... Stropped my M4 Manix on balsa loaded with 1 micron HA diamond spray. It would push cut copy paper at about 38 mm from an anchor point. Cut up some ro...

It can be calculated through Thermo-Calc and similar or obtained from the manufacturer directly, or calculated from the equations which correlate carbide volume to alloy content (these are often in the patent data). Yes, this is done by the way for all steels, you just have to look up the materials...

Carbide Volume, edge stability, edge angles, and performance

Hello All, I have never started a thread on this forum but have just gotten very interested in the concept of carbide volume and how it effects performance. Really just love the :spyder: Forum because it is packed full of info with a great internal culture; a mutual desire to learn and share knowled...

Haha. I have only kept buying sprints. Probably would only buy a Manix XL if it was a sprint. CPM-4V anyone?

Thanks Zenith! Great info there. When you put things side by side, Vanadis 4E looks less impressive. Here's a quote from bucorp.com regarding Vanadis 4 Extra: UDDEHOLM VANADIS 4 EXTRA Third Generation powder metal tool steel with excellent toughness. Harden and temper to 64-65 HRC for better edge r...

I did some more stropping with my new "value" paste. My Manix2 with M4 had a very nice mirror finish. I used the coarsest paste I just got and it dulled the finish. Then I progressed through to the finest that I have (about 5 micron) and ended up with a beautiful mirror finish again. Just...

PocketZen, I do like it (see first post). The size is great for other than heavy duty tasks. The aluminum scales take some getting used too and the clip is much too tight, but I just bent it some. Sorry didn't me to derail your thread. I love M4 and have almost bought that exact knife several times...

:) My memory has finally cought up to me, and now I remember back when the Griptillian first came out, Benchmade recommended MiliTec for use on the Axis Lock. Which is, I think, much like Tough Glide. All of which puts us: I still think I put too much Tough Glide at the pivot, but there may be some...

After the carrier (mineral spirits, basically) evaporates, what's left is a waxy residue that has excellent corrosion protection properties but in my experience makes a pretty poor lubricant - and attracts grit/dust/etc., further degrading its performance as a lube. I still use it on non-stainless ...

I have been planning for a long time to get a local blacksmith to get to make me one in 52100(bearing race steel)... I wonder why I waited so long to order this knife... It cost me all of $7. I'd say I got a good deal on this. :D Wow great deal. :D Don't know why you waited so long and don't know w...

I do wonder about Blue and White steel on those Japanese knives. Have a used White I, Blue I, and Blue super. Haven't noticed any significant dulling of the edge after cutting tomato or other acidic foods. That is surprising to hear M4 reacting in such a way. The only M4 knives I have are folders s...

I admit I have a fascination with keen edges. I'm not sure that I have all my 1095 blade will give me. I really need to work on my sharpening skill. I imagine a jig or reps are the only way to improve that. I would like to do it free hand. I'm not much of a craftsman, but if I'm going to work on so...

It seems that the only real advantage Vanadis 4 offers over M4 is slightly better corrosion resistance. Still not enough to be considered stainless. Lets look at the elements contained within the steels and lets through M390 in there as well. The big difference is in the foll...

This is the one knife that I desire the most. I love the Para 2 and I love the M4 on my GB. Combining the 2 seems like a no brainer! I would buy 2 for certain. Please Spyderco make it happen!!! I see a lot of call for more M4 in knives. Glade this thread was started. I think the Para2 is on of the ...
