Re: EDC recommendation: Native 5 LW – S30V or SPY27?

My new Native with SPY27 (and my first-ever Spyderco purchase) just arrived earlier today. Unfortunately, the blade is not even close to being centered and it looks as if it might even be slightly bent/curved. I submitted a return request (online) to the the seller. .... Did you end up returning / ...

Re: Questions about using the Sharpmaker

I used my new Sharpmaker for the first time today and have a few questions for clarification… 1) The instruction booklet says that for each step, you should give 20 strokes on each side (alternating strokes between the right and left stones for a total of 40 strokes). However, in the video, Sal see...

Re: EDC recommendation: Native 5 LW – S30V or SPY27?

You're looking way too hard into this. I suspect YouTube reviews had you looking for flaws? So...are you saying I'm being too picky? Is this typical Spyderco QC? If I send it back for an exchange, is it likely that the 2nd one will be similar? And, no, this has nothing to do with YouTube. I guess I...

Re: EDC recommendation: Native 5 LW – S30V or SPY27?

I figured it out... Notice in the first two photos that the blade is not centered (more space on the top side than the bottom side). Notice in the third photo that something looks off where the jimping is, and the blade looks slightly bent to the left. Notice in the fourth photo that the blade appea...

I do, but I'm not sure how to post them here? They are saved to my laptop as a .jpg image.

Re: The Catcherman as a filet knife?

I've used mine to fillet bait fish, and it's fine for that. For real filleting I like a longish, flexible, plain-edged, fixed blade that I don't care about, like (gasp!) a Rapala, easy to find for $20-$30, easy to sharpen, lasts forever if you wash it off, you can even throw it in the dishwasher, e...

Re: Delica 4 in 2024?

I'm just shocked to find out that there are folks that allow their nice EDC gear to get wet... And how do you use a carry gun without both a red dot and weapon mounted light? ;)

Re: The Catcherman as a filet knife?

Hi Skydog--- I don't own a Catcherman, but may order one just because I'm a Spydie fan. Everyone's thoughts/needs may differ. The Catcherman may be a good fit for a camping/fishing/food prep scenario, but as a serious filet knife, there are other choices for me. A Phil Wilson for instance. My prefe...

Re: End of an Era

...it certainly looks as if Bill Belichick & the Pats will part ways. And, I wouldn't be suprised if Belichick just decides to retire as well. And, even if Belichick does not retire, it's still the end of an era. Gotta say, I don't like the way sports are heading -.are at even! Well, not everyo...

The Catcherman as a filet knife?

I realize that there is already an ongoing thread about the Catcherman, but I have a question in regard to a very specific application for this knife and did not want to derail the other thread. I noticed as I was reading through the other thread that there were a few comments like “I’m not a fisher...

Re: What are you listening to?

Rush, Exit….Stage Left. Right on! That was the first Rush album I listened to. Was hooked ever since. Still my favorite recording of theirs. 😎 Lifelong Rush fan here, been on a 2112 run for the last month or so. Great band. I saw Rush live my first or second year in college. I don't remember the sp...

Re: EDC recommendation: Native 5 LW – S30V or SPY27?

At this point in my very limited knowledge/experience, I don't even know enough to know if I would want to change the angle on a knife, or what "toothy" even means, or what rolls are, etc.? ;) I am a complete novice. So...if I have a bunch of neglected kitchen knives or older very dull kn...

Re: EDC recommendation: Native 5 LW – S30V or SPY27?

Get your new knife & Sharpmaker, watch Sal’s video….several times and it’ll all click, you’ll figure it out. With SPY27 you’ll be perfectly fine with the fine and medium rods that comes with the kit. I’m not a sharpening guru, I sharpen everything on the Sharpmaker, serrated, carbon tool steels...

Re: EDC recommendation: Native 5 LW – S30V or SPY27?

Can you please elaborate on why I would need the cbn or diamond rods in addition to the rods that are already included with the Sharpmaker? I'm new to all of this and not familiar with all the different types of rods and what each specific type is used for. I do have several older knives (not Spyde...
