Re: 52100 Native Chief?

Comes down to cost:

If the price to produce a blade in 52100 can be passed onto the customer, then yes, a cheaper Native Chief in this steel would be good and something that I would consider purchasing.

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native

I think both are ergonomically compromised… Out of all my Spydercos The lil native feels like it needs jimping the most yet is the only one I own that doesn’t have jimping. The pocket clip also makes itself known in the hand the most. The Dragonfly is a 3 finger knife in my hands which to me makes i...

Re: Upcoming P.I.T.S. 2

The price of £400 ($500) was the main thing that put me off buying a Mike Read Alien. Also I strongly doubt whether the ergos will be as good for me as the PITS mk5 was, and the lighter action and the blade shape is not what I particularly like. The £300 PITS mk5 was a great knife that I now regret ...

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native

Neither - I’d go for Chaparral. It Crams in more cutting edge than both (only about 3 or 4mm less than the Native 5). A fair bit thinner behind the edge than the lil native. Arguably has better ergos than both and has a four-finger grip as oppose to the 3 ish of the dragonfly. Made in Taichung so wi...

Re: Review: Murray Carter Minarai Petty

They are £110 here or $137.43. Nearly pulled the trigger on one because of the handy size and blade shape really appealed as a kitchen cutter but glad I didn’t as the materials would’ve made it horrible value for money. G10 and Spy27 maybe but not this much for cheapo plastic and BD1N. Way better ki...

Re: Chaparral

Larin Thomas’s corrosion test of the steels match my findings with CTS-XHP: Rusty! People said it was a “full stainless version of D2” but going from what I’ve found with my Chaparral and my D2 Real Steel Luna (cutting the exact same plant materials in the same environment) is that the D2 is the mor...

Re: Chaparral Slipit?

A Chap slippie would bridge the gap between an Urban and a UKPK for blade length. The few mm shorter length (than the UKPK) would bring the blade uncontroversially below the 3” mark. Not even the biggest sphincter of a copper measuring the blade diagonally would have it over 3”. Good for piece of mi...

Re: Chaparral Slipit?

The chaparral design would lend itself well being made into a slip joint.

Don’t make it a tuning fork backspring like the UKPK - they are already fragile enough in that knife.

Also would prefer Spy27 over CTS-XHP as I’ve put rust on my Chaparral.

Well I was true to my word …and sooner than I thought! :winking-tongue - just had delivered a Jack Wolf I’ve had my eye on for a while in a sale. My First non-Spyderco folder in some time. It’s The Midnight Jack - So far very impressed by the strong backspring which creates a very sturdy walk n talk...

Re: Still wishing for a Chaparral XL / Endela "thin edition" / or something along that lines

Yes please.

The Chaparral XL sounds like a crazy good idea. We need more 2mm stock knives. I’ve Certainly not reached any limits of what a 2mm stock knife can do yet.

I’d likely buy one of these even in a less-than-preferable CTS-XHP / FRN that my current Chaparral wears.

Re: Native Scout?

I would like a 3.5” blade native especially in g10, but would prefer to see a 3.5” Chaparral.

Spyderco doesn’t have many 2mm stock thickness blade at 3.5” length, nearly all of them are 3+mm stock thickness.

Re: Happy Easter!... And your carry today - ?

Happy Easter, Wartstein! Started out Easter with the TRL Endura for a backpacking trip in the mountains and changed to Native 5 salt for the last part, that we spent on our mountain cabin. Used the N5 to cook a meal in the mountains yesterday while out skiing, but the only picture I took was of the...

Re: Para 3 LW Slip Joint

The Kapara slippie seems like a good idea as does the native 5. The para 3 never floated my boat - Ive owned two and passed them both on quickly, so naturally a para 3 slippie wouldn’t be something I’m eager for, but the more sub 3” slip joints the merrier I say. Now The Chaparral slip joint - that’...

Re: New Manix 2 with Uneven Bevel

You can only get away with poorly finished bevels, blade play, lock rock and generally poorly administered quality control for so long. The enthusiasts may just about be able to tolerate the price hikes, but if the quality of the finished product declines at the same time, people will walk away. Wh...
