King C Gillette vs Van Der Hagen
I just tried out my King C Gillette today and.all I can say is WOW! I started wet shaving and using safety razors about a week ago. I started off using the Van Der Hagen safety razor. I won't call it junk as peoples skin and preferences differ. But after using the King C Gillette. My shaving experie...

Re: Anyone use a safety razor?
The King Gillette should be okay. If you would buy a really good razor one time that will be sufficient. Razors you can't go wwrong with are Henson, Edwin Jagger DE89 (just this model), old Gillette Tech razors. There are a number of others that would work but I am absolutely confident one of the t...

Re: Noob Wet Shave El Cheapo Starting Outfit.
Good call sticking with the branded razor, I think. I bought a knock-off Merkur travel set off fleabay and it was junk. A couple of Januarys ago I picked up my Edwin Jagger de89, blades and a tube of brushless soap for £24 / $30 as a discounted Xmas set. Although very good, it still turned out to b...

Re: Noob Wet Shave El Cheapo Starting Outfit.
The DE89 is a superb shaver. You got a great price on it. Walmart wants $45+ nowadays. I guess it is the current problems causing such price increases. Yeah these current problems suck. Freaking $5 to $8 for a dozen eggs. Thrift stores selling used worn clothing for 3 to 5 times the price of buying...

Noob Wet Shave El Cheapo Starting Outfit.
OK, I already know you get what you pay for. Gotcha. I just wanted to post this for us on a budget or starting out. My shaving set Would have ran me a total of $30. But am did not have to pay for the shave soap. So I think I did pretty good. I did this as a way to see the bare bone minimum to invest...

Re: Anyone use a safety razor?
I would also suggest buying better shave creams and soaps. While they are more expensive initially, many people find they use less so they last longer. This means that in many cases, the "good stuff" and the "cheap stuff" end up costing the same or nearly the same when you facto...

Re: Anyone use a safety razor?
I will agree that Van Red Hagen is pretty mediocre. Hoping a King Gillette on order and a 50 pack of Silver blades will change my experience somewhat. But I may have to eventually buy a $100 or $200 safety razor. I hope not. I really don't have the funds to buy hundreds in shaving stuff. . Absolute...

Re: Preffering Stainless
I would not recommend stainless for a.grease.environment such as automotive repair. My main issue with stainless handles pertain to frigid weather. As stainless is very unforgiving to hands in cold environments.
It sure is hefty and strong though. I own 2 stainless handle knives.

Re: Anyone use a safety razor?
I would suggest you try a better razor. Van der Hagen has great advertising and big box store market penetration but, they aren't very impressive You're spot on. My first foray into real shaving was with Van der Hagen. They weren't too expensive and they sounded Dutch. Dutch people should know how ...

Re: Anyone use a safety razor?
I used my Van Red Hagen today. I did good until I tried to hit my neck. Got the burn like crazy. I blame my technique and cheap Barnwell shave cream. I tried r to shave against the grain like so could do with my cartridge razors. To get a closer shave.Gonna stick with it and figure it out. That was...

Any Bob Lum Tanto. Fixed or.folding. Is that a Spyderco, or something Bob Lum made with Sal’s permission? I have several Bob Lum folders, but they are rather different. I may be getting confused. I just remember a Tanto Spyderco made with jade handles that so thought was a collaboration between Spy...

Re: Magnacut or Bust Wishlist
I don't think saying Magnacut or S110V or whatever flavor out there should become default steel for all knives. Some of us like simple steels such as VG10 and 154CM due to affordability on very limited budgets. Without having to max out our credit cards. I can live with a bit of extra sharpening or ...
