Re: H1 Fixed blades

I don't think it works that way. I think the work hardening is in the manufacturing, at least I remember it being that way. Sharpening doesn't do it...though I have read some that say it will after a long time. I think it is a case that the teeth get a little rounded and therefore cut better. Those...

Re: H1 Fixed blades

I was hoping to find an SE and a PE, but I’ve searched high and low and they’re like trying to find rocking horse 💩. To be honest, I quite enjoy this kind of challenge.

Hey Al,

What is it you are trying to achieve?

sal
I can’t find an SE Aqua Salt for sale anywhere but I’ve secured a PE one on the secondary market from a guy in Japan. I’m planning on turning it into an SE using my chainsaw porting tools and a bit of patience (or possibly a lot of patience 😂).

I’ll be gunning for a similar shallow scallop profile to my much loved/abused Caribbean.

Re: H1 Fixed blades

You can file H1 with a chainsaw file...but be prepared to take about 15 minutes for EACH large serrated concave profile. :cussing I’ve got plenty of those kicking about. I might try and hog out the initial stock removal with a conical carbide burr, then switch to a hand file for the last bit. It’ll...

Re: H1 Fixed blades

The serrations are ground all at once on a shaped wheel. It isn't the heat that causes the work hardening, it is the mechanical/abrasive removal of material that does it. That's why it is always hollow ground, since that process is done on both sides at once. Grinding one side at a time results in ...

Re: H1 Fixed blades

One day I want to buy an Aqua Salt. Something always comes along that I need more, so I still haven't gotten one. One day. If I ever come across one in our neck of the woods I’ll let you know 👍🏻 Thanks. It will be expensive . I just got a nice one on eBay. The thing feels and looks slick. I think I...

If I ever come across one in our neck of the woods I’ll let you know 👍🏻 Thanks. It will be expensive . I always quite fancied the Fish Hunter too, but I can’t find one of those anywhere these days (that will ship to SG anyways). I’ve yet to try H1 in PE so it would be cool to try an Aqua Salt in PE...

Re: H1 Fixed blades

Perhaps Shawn's new design of "sal's sword" would be even better in a serrated H2? sal I was so fried from being outdoors in the heat all day that I didn’t even process this earlier. I wouldn’t presume to know if it is better than an amazing custom by Shaun, but by whatever deity you pray...

Re: H1 Fixed blades

Hi Al, I've always said that the Jumpmaster 2 would be an ideal model to have in the "bug-out-bag", along with a Golden stone. I wouldn't mind an Ed Schempp serrated Rock Salt. Perhaps Shawn's new design of "sal's sword" would be even better in a serrated H2? sal I think you’re ...

Good luck. There are a couple on eBay right now if you don't mind spending $700.
Yeah, I just saw that 🤯 I can get a custom fixed blade in magnacut for less.

H1 Fixed blades

I’ve been absolutely blown away by how excellent the Jumpmaster 2 SE is at work, so I’ve started looking to see if I can find a larger H1/H2 fixed blade for use in place of my machetes and parang that I hack really thick but soft materials up with (think huge banana palm stems, etc). I can’t find an...

Before I read this thread, I mistook the title to be a request for a non-locking/slipjoint version of the PM2 in G10.

Re: Out Of Production Fixed Blade

I did get the privilege to test drive a TEMP 2 once upon a time thanks to a great Spyder-Brother. And I do hope some day that I can snag one at some point. But I must say that it's predecessor the TEMPERANCE 1 model is to this day my favorite Spyderco fixed blade up till now. The two TEMP 1 models ...

Re: EDC Hygiene: Fixed Blade VS. Folder

I’ve been musing a little more over this and the more I consider it the more I think a basic Mora with the loose fitting plastic sheath would probably be best suited to your needs. The plastic handle is moulded onto the blade and is a tight seal, the sheath covers not just the blade but most of the ...
