Re: K390 Leafjumper or stretch

I have have and love both, but unless the extra blade/edge length of the Stretch 2 is something you need, I’d go with the LJ. It’s a Goldilocks knife IMO, everything is just right.

yes

which begs the question why PE is ground so much thicker.....
No kidding! If I’m not worried about snapping off the points, why would I worry a ton about chips, etc.

SE Edge Angles

Just want to check something. Since SE knives are chisel ground, as far as edge angles go, is a 20 degree SE edge equivalent to PE edge that 20 degrees inclusive, ie 10dps?

I don’t get aftermarket clips. Ruins the ergos of most knives IMO.

Re: What you don't like about spyderco knives?

That drafty brain has served me well here. All the stuff the Internet says is bad—backlocks, FRN, serrations, “outdated” steels—is all actually pretty great. But I wouldn’t know that if I had taken some chances. I’d recommend you try them all at once, for $92 (less while the MAP holiday lasts), and ...

Re: LeafJumper

I am definitely getting one on k390 and SE sounds so cool, but I am really concerned about sharpening as it is so much slower and doing any change to original grind (= angle of the serrations) is going to take ages (because it already takes ages on less abration resistent steels). k390 PE on a diam...

Re: LeafJumper

Got an LJ SE in VG10 yesterday. It just felt right from the moment I picked it up. I’m getting one in K390, no question. Just have to decide SE or PE.

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

First SE came today, a VG10 LeafJumper. I’ve only cut up the box it came in, but I was surprised how much I liked it. Final verdict will have to wait, obviously, but I sense a whole new frontier opening in front of me. Side note: the LeafJumper was love at first grasp. If nothing else, I’ve got a ne...

Re: Overlooked, Obscure Models Deserving Of A Sprint Run?

The Slyz Bowie might not be obscure, but I’d buy one. More interesting is the Catcherman. That looks like a phenomenal knife.

Loupe over phone screen for sure, it’ll give much sharper (npi) view of what’s going on at the edge.

Re: How have your preferences changed over the years?

-I no longer appreciate a 50/50 choil and prefer the handle goes to the edge or close enough -Wharncliffe has become my favorite blade shape -I have gone from enjoying the colorful handles to preferring black -I learned to love the stock Spyderco clip Wharnies are nice. Still hoping we see a wharnc...

That’s amazing! Congrats to you, and props to Spyderco! How is it in hand? Looks more slim, trim, and angular than than the Military 1 or the PM2. Intriguing.

Re: HRC Database

I have Spydies in S30V, S45VN, Magnacut, XHP, 15V, K390, and Super Blue. Super Blue and XHP are the only ones that sharpen better than Magnacut. And I only rate XHP above MC because it plays better with standard abrasives.

Re: The Ignorance of Steel

I’d mirrored several knives and the cutting performance had degraded quickly, no aggression, so I touched up on the Sharpmaker stones because I remembered someone on here mentioning that they leave a toothy finish. The white stones were okay, but the brown gave a seriously nice edge. Since I set the...

I have to say the brown Sharpmaker rods give an excellent finish, and that includes steels like K390 and 15V.

Re: 4” Folder Recs

Thanks for your input everyone. As someone pointed out, yeah, I had narrowed it down basically to the SXL and Chief. But I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything with the Militaries and the Police 4. The Resilience is a great suggestion too, although 8Cr isn’t for me. After giving the PAC Sal...

Re: 4” Folder Recs

Thanks everyone, this is exactly what I was hoping for. I’m leaning most strongly toward the Stretch 2 XL. The Chief had the edge initial, but Vivi reminded me of my biggest gripe with the regular Native. It’s not the nicest to open. Ramzar reminded me of the price difference between those models as...
