Re: Straight Razor from Spyderco
I got my balsa and my acrylic bases. I have to cut the balsa to fit the bases (12x3) and glue them together. Then, I have to take some 400 grit dry sandpaper and lap the balsa to make sure it is perfectly flat. Once that is done I can put a tiny about of compound on each board, a different grit on ...

Re: Native 5 salt - magnacut or lc200n - help me pick
There is no way 15V and K390 can go away without a Native Chief model and I own at least 2 of each. So you think 15V will be back in another spyderco model, aside from the collab model with shawn? My real question is do I buy a 15V from a scalper on ebay or do I wait for spyderco? Since the first 3...

Re: Anyone want to see Vanax in the salt series?
Man, this thread has gotten good. Thanks to everyone participating. Great advice on how to sharpen Vanax! JoviAl, I happen to do dual grit sharpening as well on my MC. 200/3000 is what I use, just cause that´s what I had available at the moment. I found it does increase edge retention. Curious, wha...

Re: Anyone want to see Vanax in the salt series?
Absolutely gorgeous. I don´t understand why there aren´t production fillet knives in rust proof steels. Vanax, understandably, would probably be pricey, but I´d still buy one. But now that we´re chatting... I was watching Larrin in a Buck knives promotion where he is being interviewed by Zack (forme...

Re: Anyone want to see Vanax in the salt series?
Words can't really do justice to the coolness of this knife. The typical things I use it on are tomatoes and onions, two very different materials. But the blade handles both equally well. Two of the more of the more challenging materials are artichoke stems and watermelons at the skin. Both require...

Re: Native 5 salt - magnacut or lc200n - help me pick
I own both steels and can’t see anything that LC200N does that Magnacut cannot do as well or better. It’s a piece of cake to sharpen (dual grit it - it’s a joy), functionally rustproof in my experience (daily all day use at work outdoors in the tropics) and tough as old boots. Maybe if I was using ...

In the meantime, if you happen to stumble upon a custom knife made by Chad Kelly in Vanax steel, Don't hesitate to buy it. Phenomenal. This evening's dinner was prepared using a Chad Kelly Vanax knife. The knife is the most beautiful knife I've handled, and it is the best performing kitchen knife t...

Re: What's your preferred EDC blade style?
it seems like this survey is for marketing purposes and confines us to either the normal blade a model comes with or some of the other "standard options"... And I just love the responses, all individualized and knowledgeable responses! It seems like a lot of people are describing "dro...

Re: M398 Mule Blade Chips
Screenshot_20230910-202831_Gallery.jpg I havent seen any damage to my m398 mule yet. Spent almost 3 minutes whacking an ice block yesterday and it still passed my testing standards. I think M398 lacks stability at lower edge angles so twisting laterally during use will be the culprit for most visib...

Re: M398 Mule Blade Chips
Larrin on M398: “...toughness ... lower than any other available stainless knife steel, including S125V...” at around 3 ft lbs. Elsewhere: "The toughness of M398 is among the lowest I have ever tested..." Has large chromium carbides. Yeah, I know Larrin sort of gave M398 the cold shoulder...

Re: MT36P – K294 MICROCLEAN Mule Team Dropping Soon!
Nice scales. Where did you get them? They're 3D printed. Found the model over on thingiverse and printed them myself. Saves me a good bit of money for every mule vs paying an extra $50 a pop for the G10 scales, plus there's tons of color options in terms of filament. I just put the extra money towa...
