Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native

For a tiny three-finger knife, the Dragonfly ergonomics line up a lot better for my hand. So it does end up being my most-carried knife, often as a secondary in a shirt or jacket pocket, etc.. What I'd really like to see is improvements on the Dragonfly LW. The big one is just offering it (especiall...

Re: Sage series collection - What's the next Sage?

sal , Since we are brainstorming here, this is my Sage. I made the ergonomics more neutral and smooth, including a crowned spine and chamfered Spydie hole. (It's a little rough but this was my first time doing this level of modification.) This is the kind of knife I want from Spyderco. https://i.im...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

The best-laid plans... The sky opened up when I was lit and a little ways from the house. Of course, the rain stopped once I was inside and dry.

Re: Dying Black G10 Scales to Make Them Blacker

WD40, 3-IN-ONE, and some other products are at least slightly toxic. While it probably won't hurt you in isolation, why lean into the punch? Most of us have enough toxic exposure in our lives. Just get some pure non-toxic mineral oil from the pharmacy. (You know, the kind you can take as a laxative....

I’m waiting for that SPY27 one. 👍
Me too. The Sage 5 is a great EDC all-rounder on its own and my S30V LW was good practice in modifying it to perfectly fit my hand. Now I'll get to kill two birds with one stone: a chance to "do it right" with those mods and a chance to try SPY27!

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

I forgot to post for "Spyderco Saturday" but yesterday was my modified Sage 5. Today was just this little Wharncliffe Dragonfly. I caught a pic while out for a short walk and enjoyment prevailed against a light sprinkle.

Re: Upping the price.

Try a Dragonfly2 Wharncliffe with a 2.28" blade of VG-10 & Black FRN for $78.75. Weighs just 1.2 ounces. The Dragonfly is already something special and that Wharncliffe blade takes it to the next level. My only complaint is that it's "only VG-10". I put that part in quotes becaus...

Re: New Discoveries found in 8Cr13MoV testing

...I still like VG-10 for hard use blades. Why so? Asking because I associate hard use with toughness; tough VG-10 ain't. "Hard use" can mean different things. Toughness certainly comes to mind but higher edge retention might be part of the equation too. Of course, having both would be id...

Re: Which steel for my next knife? (Lil' Native)

While I still haven't tried it, I'd go for S45VN here. I feel like both S45VN and SPY27 got the wind sucked out of their sales a bit by MagnaCut but both remain interesting to me. Being something new or different might not matter to everyone but in a world of choices, it's something. Looking at Larr...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

The Dragonfly is one of my favorite knives but the only version in premium stainless now is this pink one in S30V. Sure, I carried it today. Yeah, I know it's 2024. Still, I don't know that I'm man enough for a pink knife. I got some Flytanium scales to try out. I've got a busy week coming up but I ...

Re: Your Experiences with Votix Dragonfly Scales?

Thanks for the replies so far. Between the turnaround time, including them still not getting back to me on a message I sent before starting this thread, and the washer question; I pulled the trigger on some Flytanium scales. I hope to get a chance to try them soon but my schedule has been absolutely...

Re: New Discoveries found in 8Cr13MoV testing

Always felt Spyderco's 8Cr13MoV was a tad bit underrated. I don't feel like my opinions have changed about 8Cr13MoV. It grinds easy but it doesn't apex as well as other steels. I did feel the testing put other steels in a better light rather than elevating 8Cr13MoV. 14C28N looks even better now. Go...

So many cool shots here. I've said it before but I'll say it again, it's one of the few times I miss having a "like" button.

Anyway, just enjoying a springtime snowstorm with this RockJumper in my pocket.

Your Experiences with Votix Dragonfly Scales?

Hi! With the Dragonfly being an EDC MVP, whether as a primary or secondary carry, I finally decided to get the S30V model. I'm just not sure that I'm man enough for the pink scales. So I've been looking at other options (besides just dyeing them). Flytanium makes some cool titanium scales. A big dea...

Re: Upping the price.

Hi Ugaarguy, Ya know, I thought about this thread quite a bit over the past week or so. I can understand being concerned over raising prices. I too am concerned. But it's always possible to make anything cheaper. You start with the top and then you suck out quality and/or services until you've got ...

Re: Upping the price.

Hi Chronovore, We've not had a chance to test 14C. We're currently testing 19C. We generally don't do much with steels under .8 carbon for blades. sal Thanks for the quick reply. Coming at it from a carbon perspective, I can see why you passed over 14C28N. It might not be a champion on edge retenti...
