Re: Black Friday Deals
I have both and they are so far apart in use, that you would need to clearly define your actual needs. The Opera is a gentleman's folder and the GB2 is hard use working knife. One is an Acura, the other a Ford F250. Which would you use the most? Hm, good point and good question. I guess the thing i...

Re: Black Friday Deals
I need help. This is too much. Do I get a GB2 or a SpyOpera? I love the design of both. But I'd need to mod the GB2 because I hate carbon fiber, so would buy or make alternative scales for it. One is cheaper, and simpler, and I very much want it. But for some reason that doesn't just win the day. I'...

Re: Caly Series. What's Next?
For my purposes the Caly Jr. blows the others in this series away funtionally, ergonomically, and aesthetically. It's a larger Dragonfly, which is the highest possible praise. A friend just contacted me looking for knife recommendations, and top of the list I gave them is a DF2. If the Caly Jr. were...

Re: Your Forced Patina Methods
i stuck an opinel in some "asian" (i.e., non-mayo, sesame oil style) cole slaw on a whim once and got one of the best patinas I've ever seen, had almost equally good results a second time with an m4 knife. the mix of oil & vinegar combined with chopped cabbage to different degrees of f...

Re: Wolfspyder 2?
it's already one of the top 3 best/coolest looking knives across the entire catalog imo. the form is functional, i can say from experience, having used it to carve, cut, split and shave wood for years now, along with everything else a pocketknife is actually useful for, and i like that it looks like...

Re: Para 2 cruwear micarta
the feel of the scales on this when new was one of my favorite things about it. really love the softer micarta. i haven't taken mine apart yet, but it has lock stick out of the box that's persisted to this day, so may try what i saw above has anyone managed to break one at the tab yet? let alone wit...

Re: Wolfspyder 2?
that's exciting news! wolfspyder was my first 'good' pocket knife, my first spyderco, and remains my favorite. i have to assume the blade steel may change, as that would be the only big change i'd pick. curious about what other tweaks there may be. handle color should not be one of them, unless it's...

Singapore - traditional knives?
Travelling to Singapore soonish for work, have never been before - was curious if while there it was worth poking around to find any neat knives unique to the island, and/or esp those unavailable in the US? Obv parangs are Malaysian, but I didn't know if a similar type was common to Singapore, or fr...

literally any jester
but if i had a choice, a jester with a...handle, in a 15v-magnacut blend, obviously the ultimate steel of the universe forever. I can't believe I'm the first person to think of this.

Re: New Knifejoy exclusive coming soon
I adore October/Halloween and think knifjoy’s post is cool myself extremely with you on this. tbh if they could get spyderco to use the old spiderweb boxes (which should come back FULL PRODUCTION imho) that'd be a strong step in the right direction an even stronger would be another JESTER RUN COME ...

Re: Unscientific Knife Battles
this is really good.
out of all the folding knives i own, if i had to use them for food, i feel i'd reach for my stretch 2 first. on the other end, i've been surprised that in a pinch, the wolfspyder hasn't been as abyssmal as i'd expected.

Re: Stretch 2 XL in grey G10 and CruWear steel!
i'm surprised by cruwear tbh, but it's technically a 'hunting knife' so i suppose it makes sense in that regard, as well as in such a relatively long, thin blade (are the 2xl blades as thin as the stretch 2?). and i love the steel, so no problem there. full liners and g10 is absolutely for me - if i...

Re: Chef's knives - questions, ideas & recommendations
thanks for the suggestions all! very much appreciated, and I'm feeling better informed I would still love to know why there are not better, or more variety of steels in German-style knives. Obv this reflects the limited range of steels used in European cutlery generally, so that kind of path-depende...

Honestly, reading your desires, it sounds like the right Japanese knife is exactly what you're after. Thanks, I appreciate the spirit of making sure I don't miss out on what might appear actually ideal to me. The thing is I'm not really confused about anything regarding Japanese-style knives, just ...

Re: Chef's knives - questions, ideas & recommendations
I ordered a Misen and is way cheaper than comparable Wusthof but fraction of price. Feels good quality in hand. And first order I believe is free shipping and a discount. The sell directly to consumer. It's western style knife with Japanese 15° bevel. They started on Kickstarter. I have their utili...

Chef's knives - questions, ideas & recommendations
I am interested in picking up a new chef's knife for a friend, and potentially one for my own kitchen too. I've spent a good while now looking for options, and have been surprised by the limited selection available for good quality knives in a Euro/German style blade profile. I'm especially curious ...

High entropy alloys are a hot topic for metallurgists and materials scientists right now, When discussing these materials, what is meant by "high entropy?" short answer: it means something like 'really evenly distributed' long answer: entropy as a thermodynamic principle, esp as translate...

Re: I hate my pocket knife.
this, plus the endless everyday commentary site-wide celebration of them are really making me jealous of the green zdp owners. i feel like the df2 is so universally loved and lauded, i have to wonder why it doesn't see the lion's share of sprints and exclusives. profit margins not as good as pm2/3s?...
