I’m holding out on the bodacious until it’s released in a different steel which I’m sure is coming.
Maybe 15V one day, maybe soon with the Reveal 15 coming soon.

Re: Handmade Burl Wood Scales for the Gayle Bradley 2

Great work. Are the liners still exposed, or did you cover them up? I’d love some contoured Micarta that defeats the proud liners. I kept the lines exposed because I like the look and contrast to the wood. It would be fairly easy to make them cover the liners. Just instead of tracing the scales tra...

Re: Handmade Burl Wood Scales for the Gayle Bradley 2

outstanding. thanks for sharing, very useful as a guide beyond being nice to look at. edit: where would one look to find similar quality burl? other than knife supply sites i guess, or is that the simplest place I got that specific burl from Woodcraft.com, its Red Coolibah that was about 2"x2&...

Handmade Burl Wood Scales for the Gayle Bradley 2

I finally found the time and tried to make a set of wood scales for my Bradley 2. It was done without a CNC machine. I primarily used a drill press and a band saw to cut the wood block to thickness. The factory scales were only about .11” thick, this was achieved via bandsaw but I think next time I ...

Re: Sage 5 in REX 121 + burnt orange

I'm in, even though I've never held a Sage and worry it might be on the smaller side for my preferences, as the Native 5 is already a little small. Don't care. I'm smitten with my REX45 Manix2LW and the pull of REX121 novelty is too much to resist. I think REX121 will lend itself to a smaller knife...

I think this is the knife I never knew I needed. It will come down to price on this one, but think it will be pretty cool and unique.

Re: Questions about using the Sharpmaker

I am not sure I can add a lot more but this is my recommendation for a beginner who just needs to maintain a sharp knife. -Use the 40°. You will hit the apex (edge) of the knife with this angle, critical to getting a sharp edge and probably the main cause of frustration. -The number of strokes can b...

Re: 2023 - Did your preferences change or stay the same?

FRN... I always was a G10 fan, just looked better and felt better. I got my 15 year old son his first real knife, a Manix 2 LW Spy-27 for christma. I was very impressed with the FRN, how light it was, the action of the knife and how stiff they were. Needless to say, I now have a Manix 2 LW MagnaCut ...

I've noticed January's winner has a whopping 9 posts and hasn't signed in since September...really grinds my gears!
That does suck, guess I just need to get better at my pictures. I have one I took from a year ago I am hoping to use.

Re: chaparral birdseye maple question

I am surprised to hear they are not stabilized, from what I have read very few woods (ironwood, ebony, etc) can be used on a knife with out being stabilized.

I have the Sharpmaker but the oval shape of the stones make a lot more sense. Just more consistent contact with the knife edge if you are not perfectly square to the flat side of the stone.

An eBay seller is pre selling the Bodacious. Claims they should get their allotment first quarter 2024.

No idea how accurate but it’s something.

Re: Whats up in the warranty dept.

For what it is worth if Spyderco can and it’s reasonable they will take care of you. Best customer service I ever had and why I keep coming back. A few points I want to add too: - they don’t cover abuse. Not saying what you did was abuse but worth knowing. - a good tough steel should deform and not ...

Re: MagnaWear Easter Egg?

MagnaCut is a tougher steel so I am surprised it was chipping at 17dps. But if it does just go to 20dps and it will greatly increase its resistance to chipping.

That ceramic rod is way harder than hardened steel.
Maybe you could also treat it like ceramic tile, score and snap it.

Re: Does anyone know how to cut brown Sharpmaker rods cleanly?

I would try a Dremel with a cut off disk. I mean the disk will cut hardened steel cleanly so I think it would work on a stone.

Re: did somebody say magnacut manix...?!

I was thinking for awhile to dye the scales on my Manix 2 Salt, but now I’m not that sure if I should do it. I’m afraid that the knife will loose a lot of personality if I go with a different color. I just did a quick search and these knives are still out of stock, maybe they sell very fast, who kn...
