Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

Soooo, P4 or Endura 4? Opinions? P4 for me. Better ergonomics all around. If the Endura fits your hand that might level the field a bit but when most other things are equal I always side with ergonomics, even over price. Thanks, I just went back and looked at the handle profiles instead of focusing...

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

Okay, you guys have finally broken my resolve. I'm trying to decide on my first fully serrated Spyderco (I bought two combo edge, G-10 Tenacious...es to keep as emergency blades in my truck and my wife's car a couple of years ago). Anyway, right now I'm debating the Police 4 and Endura 4, both in K3...

Re: best locking mechanism for deer hunting folder?

Going through the same thought process some 5-6 years ago, my theories and hypotesises around how this would work out in real life led me toward titanium frame locks, but those never jived with me in actual use. I’ve pretty much settled on the Native 5 salt for this type of use. Light, suitable bla...

Re: best locking mechanism for deer hunting folder?

I am not a folder fan deer hunting , especially after trying one out . If you do liner-less , or open frame would be helpful . I don’t know of any that will not collect matter while dressing out a deer . It just the nature of the folder design . MG2 Same as me, while I no longer hunt after some spi...

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

It affected it a lot. The greenish one was just grey dye. The reddish one was coral, blue and scarlet red. Two different solutions on the red one Hmmm, I'll have to see what I end up with I'm going to try for something close to the K390 blue. The Rit dye chart lists a "Zante Bay" as 1.5 p...

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

Got my plain edge Magnacut Native in the mail today, I've been Native-less for around a year now and I'm very pleased to have it in my rotation again. I took off the clip until I pick up an aftermarket deep carry. This thing is gonna be my go to work knife in the kitchen, won't have to worry about ...

Nice dye job! How much do you think the original yellow affected the end color? I know about where I want to end up, just not sure if I should compensate for the yellow affect.

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

I received the GPKnives Rex45 Satin Native 5 last week and the Magnacut PE Native 5 yesterday. Both are perfect in every aspect, and very sharp! That'll make your day! Love both of mine. Same here, both knives are outstanding. I've been tempted to get the SPY27 N5 as well but something else always ...

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

Guys, I also ordered a Hogue Deka Magnacut with frn scales while I was waiting for this Native 5. Should receive it tomorrow or the next day. Have any of you also ordered the Deka because you just wanted SOMETHING in Magnacut while waiting for the PE Native 5 to drop? If so, did you like it? My pla...

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

Received my N5 Salt yesterday, edge bevels are the most even I've seen in my last few knives. The others weren't terrible by any means, just slightly inconsistent along the length of the blade. Yellow is definitely not a color I'm crazy about so I'll probably dye the handle eventually. So far I'm st...

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

And I'm thinking Rit Dye may be called for, something like the K390 blue FRN would be my ideal color. Glad the PE is finally available. I'm convinced it was worth the wait. If you like that Rex45, you'll love the Salt N5! And yes, that Rex dyes nicely! Actually, I really like the plain white FRN on...

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

Glad you got lucky! I'll get one eventually. I kinda got lucky last week when I snagged the last Rex45 N5 GP Knives had. Gonna find me some Rit dye and have a little fun. I bought the uncoated Rex 45 N5 a few months ago, it's been an outstanding knife and I've been really impressed with mine. I jus...

Re: King C Gillette vs Van Der Hagen

I bought my first DE razor in 2004, a Merkur 37C slant bar. That was the same year I went down the straight razor rabbit hole. I enjoyed both but the slant bar made it difficult to cut my sideburns straight so I experimented with several other safety razors - and dozens of straights. I enjoy using b...

Great pics @RadioactiveSpyder , really highlights the similarities of all three as well as the blade thickness differences. Is "087v" a personalized engraving option like BHQ offers? It's tastefully done, whatever the case. Hi CO, thanks for the compliment. The 087V is my Collectors Club ...

Re: Shaving Soap\Can Foam Blues.

Maggards has soap, razors, brushes, et. al as well. Sampler packs, too. I've bought from them and Pasteur Shaving. https://maggardrazors.com/ https://pasteurshaving.com/ I highly recommend Maggard Razors, they've been my primary source for wet shaving supplies since 2004. Bullgoose Shaving is also ...

Jack, you just name-dropped 4 of my absolutely favorite Spydercos in just 3 short paragraphs. You have excellent taste, sir. :1stplace: Thanks, glad to hear I chose wisely. Re: Tungsten Carbide Mule

The Sandrin Torino looks awesome but it happens to be out of my price range. I would however be interested in a reasonably priced tungsten carbide mule. Not really sure I would like how the edge behaves but I won't know if I never try. snip Larrin wrote a great article about Sandrin carbide you sho...

Sharpening seems to be not that bad and the price isn't that bad either, accordingly to this thread: https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=88832 I mean, it's not cheap but also not stupid expensive. Haven't read that entire thread but I'm honestly surprised. Several thousand for a fixe...

Re: Tungsten Carbide Mule

What desirable qualities would a tungsten carbide blade possess? My experience is with tungsten carbide metal cutting tools. There is nothing about any of my metal cutting tools that makes me want them on a knife. Carbide tooling is delicate. If you bump it, you'll chip it. Sharpening is a chore. Y...
