Mike Janich took the design to custom knife maker Michael Snody who for several years made and sold a custom version. The Ronin is Spyderco's production version. More info... |
 | Custom knifemakers are way more than just steel junkies. Many are great artists and deep thinking intellectuals with their own specialties and talents. They continue to bring spice, variety and new ideas to the knife world. Custom maker Ed Schempp is a wheat farmer who while driving his tractor through his fields has time to think. He thinks about knives and everything surrounding them: steel, designs, heat treat, metallurgy properties, and he also thinks wheat, but only because he has to. His signature symbol, wheat sheaves are found on all his knives. He recently collaborated with Spyderco in a design called the Persian Folder -- a well thought out mixture of classic Western meets the exotic East. More info... |
 | Jerry Hossom started making knives more than 25 years ago, doing so professionally since 1997. He avoids knifemaking boundaries, preferring to make models that don't fit any predisposed category but are task or role specific as to function. His specialty is large fixed blades that go hand-in-hand with being outdoors and take on any cutting challenges Mother Nature can throw at you, large or little. More info... |

 | If you consider it, every civilization both ancient and modern has historically developed its own variety of cutlery that is representative of its culture, ethnicity and cutting requirements at the time. Spyderco unveiled its first ethnic inspired knife with a Shabaria folder, reminiscent of classic Middle Eastern cutlery. Next up, a Japanese Tanto then a Chinese Folder. In 2003 we released a Persian knife followed by an Indonesian Karambit blade. The latest installment Spyderco's Ethnic Knife Series is a Kris folder designed by custom knifemaker Ed Schempp. More info... |
